Understand that it is normal and will pass Keep in touch with home – but balance with getting to know your new environment Have familiar things around you – photographs etc.. Find a sympathetic listener Eat healthily and take regular exercise Make friends with international students Take advantage of all the help and support offered by your host institution – e.g. orientation and induction events/social events Use University or college support services if feelings persist Let Study Abroad office know before you go if you have a previous history of mental health difficulties and might need extra support. Be aware of ‘reverse culture shock’ on return to UK.
