Veterans Elementary School will open at 4901 Faubus Avenue this school year. Veterans Elementary School was built on the site of Morgan Elementary School, which closed in June 2016. Students from Morgan Elementary and Barden Elementary, which also closed in June 2016, will attend Veterans Elementary. The opening celebration will be held September 8. More information about the celebration will be provided at a later date. The Hutchings College and Career Academy is moving from its location at 2011 Riverside Drive to the Dr. Robert J. Williams Complex at 1780 Anthony Road this school year. The alternative school program is moving from Burghard Opportunity Center on Bloomfield Road to the vacant Williams S. Hutchings Building at the Martin-Whitley Educational Complex at 2011 Riverside Drive. The move will provide the program with a centralized location. The dedication for the Martin-Whitley Educational Complex will be held September 23. More information about the dedication will be provided at a later date. Open houses will be held for high schools and middle schools on Wednesday, July 27 from 4-7 p.m. Open houses for elementary schools will be Thursday, July 28 from 4-7 p.m. Information about school supply lists, dress codes and a copy of the 2016-2017 academic calendar are available on the District’s website, www.bcsdk12.net, under the headline “2016-2017 Back-to-School Information.”
