The Power of Many The Central Community College Foundation was established in 1989 as a separate 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation. The Foundation continues to grow with assets now exceeding $38 million and deferred assets now exceeding $5 million. In addition, cumulative scholarships have surpassed $2.6 million with fiscal year ’16 the highest award of scholarships in the history of the Foundation. It takes donors of all ages, income levels, and donation amounts to attain these exciting results. “The Power of Many” truly has contributed to the success and growth of the Foundation but also indicates the strong support throughout the 25 County area, the State, and beyond that understand the benefit to the students and the communities we live in. The focus for fiscal year ’16 was our “Major Gift Campaign” for the new Central Community College Kearney Center. Our campaign goal was $10 million to support a $23.3 million dollar project. The campaign is near completion with over 95% of dollars raised toward our goal. The campaign will also generate significant dollars for scholarships and a new Small Business Institute. The success of the campaign allowed the College to begin construction one year earlier than projected. The new Center is expected to open for the fall ’17 semester. The campaign has gained new relationships and support locally, regionally, and statewide for the Foundation.
Dean Moors
Along with the Kearney Center project was the approval and success of a campaign to support the new Heavy Equipment Operator Technician program on the Hastings Campus. Donations are approaching $1 million with the program to begin in the fall of ’16. Donor support for the College, students, and programs has been very strong. The Foundation will complete a five year strategic plan during the next year to plan for the future. “The Power of Many” will be key to the success of the future growth of the Foundation and support back to the College. Testimonials throughout the annual report will support why the donations make a difference every day. Thanks to all who supported the Foundation this past year. We hope to continue our growth and commitment to the students, College, and communities within our 25 County area for years to come. Central Community College is in the midst of celebrating their 50th Anniversary with celebrations and activities throughout the 25 County area. The Foundation will assist in this celebration by helping generate 50 new scholarships from our “Give Day” donations.

College President’s Report At Central Community College student success and access are at the core of our mission. We strive to assure that our students meet their learning objectives and educational goals in a friendly, supportive environment. CCC attempts to keep education affordable and within reach of all who desire it. In this endeavor the CCC Foundation plays a key role within our community, providing crucial financial support for students. The CCC Foundation’s work advances our common goal of placing students first by assuring private support for high quality, low cost public education. The men and women who contribute their time, Dr. Greg P. Smith energy, and expertise to the Foundation’s Board of Directors deserve our special thanks. This talented board is a unified body whose commitment benefits all those who look to CCC to help fulfill their hopes and dreams. The members of the board set an example for others last year with 100% of them personally contributing funds to the Foundation. As we strive to keep costs reasonable the work of the CCC Foundation is increasingly important. Our dual challenge is to offer programs, facilities, and opportunities that enable a diverse array of men and women to improve their lives and their communities while making those opportunities as affordable as possible. The 2016-2017 fiscal year will be a busy and eventful year at CCC. We will have completed our Kearney Center Major Gifts Campaign targeted at $11.5 million for a new 63,000 square foot facility, scholarships, and a small business institute. We’re moving earth and expect to be open for classes in fall 2017. We can all be proud that thousands of men and women of all ages, from across our 25-county area and beyond, turn to CCC each year to further their education, There is an implicit understanding that each time a student enrolls, CCC will provide a learning environment conducive to success and that, in return, the student will invest the energy and effort necessary to achieve success. Student success is possible in large part due to support from individuals, businesses, and organizations dedicated to improving our overall quality of life through generous contributions to provide financial aid, programs, and facilities for our deserving students. I speak for all at CCC and the communities we serve when I express heartfelt gratitude to the numerous private donors listed in this report for their past benevolence. Thanks to you, we look forward to a continued relationship of mutual support for CCC’s current and future students. And, as 2016 marks the 50th anniversary of CCC, we will hold numerous special events to mark this milestone culminating with the May 2017 graduation ceremonies. We hope that you will be able to join us in these celebrations!

Foundation President’s Report Last year I opened this letter with the words “Celebrate – now back to work!” That definitely was the theme this year as your Foundation staff recorded a lot more hours and miles traveled than previous years, possibly a record for both. It is therefore no surprise that your CCC Foundation is pleased to report a successful completion to our 2016 fiscal year. We are acutely aware, however, that our success is due to you, our contributors, for supporting our mission and vision. Through your commitment and generosity we continue to provide the growing need of financial support for our CCC students. Terry Millard This past year we were dually focused on meeting our scholarship objectives in addition to running a capital campaign for the new Kearney facility. Thanks to your highly energized Foundation staff and the generous support of the Kearney community, the capital campaign is nearing its successful completion with over 95% of the goal committed at this time and the construction project underway. This campaign will also develop additional scholarship support specifically for students who will attend this facility. Looking forward, we have much to accomplish in reaching our goal of providing a quality, yet affordable education for the nearly 75% of our students who qualify for financial aid. Meeting employer needs for a qualified, productive workforce will demand future additions to facilities, programs, and faculty on all campuses. We are fully engaged in the process of growing the Foundation to meet these needs. Of course, a required element of success is the human capital that leads, supports, and advocates for any organization. We are fortunate to have those people on board. However, this next year we will be without some of those who have significantly contributed to our past success. Bonnie Preston and Doug Camplin have stepped down from their board postions having served since 2001 and 2010 respectively. We will also miss Jessica Soucie, our Development Director. Though with us only a short time, Jessica provided a much needed boost to our staff and the capital campaign through this last year. We thank them all for their leadership and support of the Foundation. Thank you for your continued support of the Foundation. As you read through this report you will see numerous examples and proof of the measurable impact your support has on our scholarship recipients. Now that…is something to celebrate! Terry Millard, President

Community College Success Imagine thinking you are not smart enough to go to college; you were told college is for other people, people who have money. You are a single parent; you have a job, but you still cannot make the rent, bills, and daycare each month. You do not have health insurance because you work and make too much to qualify for state aid, but you cannot afford to buy health insurance. You know education is the only chance you have at changing your life, but how do you even start? One day you find the courage to walk through the doors of your local Cheri Beda community college; this is a great accomplishment because there were many Alumni Director times you sat in that parking lot too scared to go in. You declare to the receptionist, “I want to go to school. What do I do?” She assists you and makes sure you are handed off to registration; they explain it all, and then you learn about financial aid, scholarships and grants that are available. You learn that you are able to go to school; it is not just for rich people. You are smart enough; you took the tests and are ready to sign up for classes. You will be able pay for that class and the books because there is financial help. This whole new world of higher education is available to you, the person who is scared, hopeful, and grateful. This person was me, Cheri Beda, a non-traditional adult student who did not know how higher education worked. I made it through my Associate’s degree with the wonderful guidance and assistance of my community college. I received grants and scholarships. I was able to complete my Bachelor’s and my Master’s degrees. I am working on my doctorate all because many people cared about my success. They might not have known me, but their kind donations enabled me to receive scholarships all throughout my educational journey. My life has transformed over the past 10 years. I wake up every day feeling grateful and hopeful for the future. I donate to CCC Foundation because I want to give our students a chance. So many people don’t know where to start; being an adult and going to school is scary. Knowing there is assistance to help you while you build your new life is a great feeling. I know I am not only impacting the students but their families as well. My children have benefitted from me going to school. Not only am I a proud community college graduate, but I am also showing them that school is important and giving back is important to build a strong community. I will continue to donate to CCC Foundation because I believe in higher education and the future generation of graduates.

Four Ways to Make a Difference Before you put out the “For Sale” sign, think of the good you can do. If you’ve lost interest in home maintenance, grown tired of paying property taxes on a vacation home you no longer use or need only a portion of the living space you currently own, you may be ready to make a move. But before you put your home on the market, think about a charitable gift to us. If you would like to help fulfill our mission, your property can open the door to a unique giving opportunity: Donate the property to us, either now or whenever you no longer need it. You can give the property to us now, retain the use of it for life, give us partial use, place it in a trust, or give it by will. Let’s look at the various ways to donate real estate along with the tax savings and benefits of each. 1. Donate property and secure a deduction for the full value. When you make a gift of real property that you have held for more than a year, you obtain an income tax charitable deduction equal to the property’s full fair market value. This deduction lets you reduce the cost of making the gift and frees cash that otherwise would have been used to pay taxes.
By donating the property to us, you also eliminate capital gains tax on its appreciation.
2. Give your home, but enjoy lifetime use. Many donors find that their largest asset is their home, but they don’t consider using this as a gift because they can’t imagine living anywhere else.
With a retained life estate, you give a personal residence or farm to us but retain the right to occupy it for life. The property doesn’t have to be your primary home, but it must be a personal immediate income tax charitable deduction for a portion of your property’s current value because the gift cannot be revoked.
3. Donate real estate and obtain income for life from your gift. Instead of making a gift of real property now, you can use unmortgaged property to fund a charitable remainder trust. With this arrangement, you give the property to the trust, and the trust then pays income (within IRS limits) to you and, if you choose, others for the rest of your lives. When the trust terminates, we receive the remainder.
Once the property is given to the trust, the trustee will sell it and invest the proceeds in incomeproducing securities, which become the source for lifetime income payments to you and any other recipient you name.
You receive a substantial current income tax deduction for a portion of the gift, and when you give appreciated property, you will not pay upfront tax on the capital gain.
4. Give real estate through your will. If you are not comfortable making a gift of property right now, consider leaving it to us in your will or revocable living trust. This can be the perfect way to support our organization because you are able to help us in the future without using assets today.
Because your will can be changed at any time, you will not be able to take an income tax deduction. Your estate, however, will receive an estate tax deduction for the full value of the property. When you make a gift to us through your will or trust, you support our work while creating lasting legacies in your memory or in the memory of a loved one.
Consult your advisors; gifts of real estate can be complex, depending on the property involved. Therefore, we always recommend you consult your professional advisors for help. If you have questions concerning any of the options above, please feel free to contact Dean Moors (
[email protected] or 402-460-2153). *The Stelter Group

Four New Endowed Scholarships This past fiscal year several families and individuals set up endowed funds at the Foundation. An endowed scholarship is a scholarship that has been permanently endowed at $10,000 or greater. The corpus is never touched, but scholarships are awarded and/or college support is given from earnings these funds accumulate through the Foundation’s investments. At this time, the Foundation has 84 Endowed Scholarship Funds. You can see a listing of these on page 13. The four endowed scholarships established during this past fiscal year are the Don Newport Presidential Leadership Scholarship, the Bernard & Oriel Kinley Scholarship, the John & Sonia Sahling Scholarship, and the Drs. Greg & Marilee Smith Kearney Center Scholarship. The Don Newport Presidential Leadership Scholarship was established by former Columbus Campus president, Don Newport. It is designed to provide scholarships for the Columbus Campus and part of the criteria is as follows: full-time, first-year student. Recipient must have demonstrated the capacity for leadership during high school and possess a minimum of a 3.0 GPA. The recipient must demonstrate an interst in assuming a leadership role while attending CCC. The first award will be during the 50th Year Celebration for CCC. The Bernard & Oriel Kinley Scholarship was established upon the death of Oriel, a former College President Administrative Assistant and historian of Hastings Campus and the start up of Central Community College. She was employed by CCC from 1966 thru 1984. Bernard was also employed on the Hastings Campus from 1966 through 1987. Through a planned gift from Oriel’s Charitable Remainder UniTrust the scholarship was established. This scholarship will provide scholarships for students on the Hastings Campus. The John & Sonia Sahling Scholarship was established by the Kearney couple to benefit students attending the Kearney Center. John was one of the original students attending the Hastings Campus in 1966. This scholarship is based on the needs of the student, not grades. The Drs. Greg & Marilee Smith Kearney Center Scholarship was established by the College President and his wife to benefit students attending the Kearney Center. They have another endowed scholarship called the Drs. Greg P. & Marilee Smith Endowed Scholarship which benefits students collegewide which was established in 2011. Endowed or Restricted scholarship funds can be set up to address almost any circumstances that the donor wishes. If you would like to discuss or establish a scholarship, please contact Dean Moors (402-460-2153 or
[email protected]).
Corporate Matching Gifts Corporations or their foundations sometimes enhance contributions given by their individual employees through a matching program. Central Community College Foundation has received matching gifts from the following for 2015-2016: Burlington Northern Santa Fe Railway Foundation Northwestern Mutual Foundation
Principal Financial Group Foundation Union Pacific Corporation 12
StudentScholarship Scholarship Support–Endowed ScholarStudent Support–Endowed Scholarships A number of permanently endowed funds have been established for student and college support over the years. Monies in these endowed funds are invested with scholarships and support awarded from investment earnings only. The principal of the endowed funds remains intact to continue providing scholarships and support for future students and the programs at Central Community College. The Foundation also coordinates a number of other scholarships that have not been permanently endowed. They are too numerous to list in the annual report. If you or someone you know would like to set up or receive information about either an endowed scholarship or another type of scholarship, please contact Dean Moors, Executive Director of the Central Community College Foundation (

Donor Honor Roll Over the past 27 years, thousands of individuals and organizations have designated Central Community College Foundation and the College as recipients of their contributions. These contributions have come in a variety of ways—through capital campaigns, memorials, scholarships, grants, employee appeals, and other fund raising activities. Our Donor Honor Roll reflects gifts from patrons to the CCC Foundation. The Foundation’s Donor Honor Roll includes the following categories: • Board of Governor’s Club—Platinum, Gold, Silver, or Bronze; President’s Society, and Foundation Builder’s Club include lifetime contributions within the designated monetary values. The most recent contribution must have been between July 1, 2013, and June 30, 2016. • Dean’s Club, Faculty Club, Century Club, and Campus Club include lifetime contributions within the designated monetary values. The most recent contribution must have been between July 1, 2015, and June 30, 2016. *Legacy Donors are listed separately in the Annual Report. **NOTE: Every effort is made to place each donor in the proper giving category. However, with a multitude of donor accounts errors sometimes occur. If you feel your account is listed incorrectly, please contact the Foundation. “I want to thank you again for giving me the opportunity to continue my education to work with chil dren with the Lindsey Larson Scholarship. I am truly grateful to have this scholarship and I cannot thank you enough.”
“I am writing to thank you for your generous $500 Mike Swanson Memorial Scholarship. I was very happy and appreciative to learn that I was selected as the recipient of your scholarship. I am a Welding Technology major. I plan to pursue a career in Welding Construction or Manufacturing; eventually owning my own business. I am currently carrying 15 credits, and plan to graduate in the spring of 2017. Thanks to you, I am one step closer to that goal. By awarding me the Mike Swanson Memorial Scholarship, you have lightened my financial burden which allows me to focus more on school and learning. I hope one day I will be able to help students achieve their goals just as you have helped me.” 18
Employee Donors Support from employees of Central Community College is instrumental in the success of the CCC Foundation. While the dollars contributed by the employees are important, even more significant is the loyalty, commitment, and dedication these donors represent. The following list represents 353 part-time, full-time, and community education employees who have contributed to the CCC Foundation 2015 Employee Appeal, paid to participate in the 2015 Pro-Am Golf Tournament, donated their Service Awards, and/or participated in other fundraising opportunities sponsored by the Foundation. CCC Retiree’s Gatherings Past employees of Central Community College often mentioned that they missed being a part of the “Central Family” upon their retirement. This is one reason the Foundation chose to establish an event where each Campuses’ and Centers’ retirees can come together occasionally after they leave the college. We welcome all retirees, their significant others, and any surviving spouse to attend, reconnect, and enjoy some camaraderie with other CCC retirees. This past fiscal year 17 employees retired. They are Todd Bosak, Kathy Brownell, Cindy Foxhoven, Vicki Harvey, Everett Hinton, Dale Janitscheck, Eric Jones, Betty Kooy, Glenda Liebig, Nancy Reese, Dee Regier, Marilyn Reynolds, Fred Roeser, Sharon Samuelson, Jim Strayer, Diane Vorderstrasse, and Linda Wenn. We welcome the new CCC Retirees! If you are interested in attending an event and you haven’t received an invitation, please contact Pat Stange,
[email protected] or 402-460-2152.
I am not a current employee of Central Community College nor have I ever been employed by CCC but my commitment to the College is above and beyond what one might think. My husband, Les Oelschlager, was the first diesel instructor to be hired at Central Nebraska Vocational Technical School Number One (Tech) in 1966. He continued teaching until his retirement in 1987. I worked at the Navy Depot loading shells from 1944 through 1946, so we both have ties to that area of Hastings. When Les started out at the College, he was not impressed by the condition of the building which he was to start teaching in that first semester. The LaVergne building required a lot of cleanup, including sweeping of bird and rodent Oelschlager excrement as well as the general disrepair of the walls and floors. One of the other instructors hired from Omaha to teach that same semester left after seeing the condition of the building. Les grabbed a broom and started getting ready to hold classes. I am still visited many years later by former students Les taught. In August 2013, my sons and I honored Les by donating a bench and plaque at the site of the former Harlan Building on the Hastings Campus. It was one of the happiest days of my life to be able to attend that dedication. Several of Les’ former students came that day to revisit the site of their education. The Hastings Campus holds lots and lots of memories for my whole family. We were all considered part of the CCC family. Les would be in his height of glory seeing the new Diesel Building and the new Heavy Equipment Operator Technician program. CCC has meant so much for so many, I hope it continues to educate many more for years and years. “I am sincerely grateful for being selected as one of the Morrison Health Occupations recipients. It is a great honor to receive such a scholarship, and I am deeply appreciative of your support. I cannot wait to continue my education at CCC, while I work towards becoming a dental hygienist. Thank you again for your generosity and support.” 21
Outstanding Alumni Each year Central Community College campuses in conjunction with the Central Community College Alumni Director nominate and award the Outstanding Alumni honor to a deserving graduate from each of their respective campuses. Over the years, 85 graduates and one family have received the honor. Central Community College’s Alumni Director is Cheri Beda. Her office is located in the CCC Administration Offices located on the west end of the Grand Island Campus. Please feel free to contact her at 308-398-7437 or
[email protected] to discuss your opportunities as an alumni of Central Community College. Central Community College Foundation is the conduit through which the College presents this award to deserving alumni. Below are the recipients who were bestowed the honor at the commencement ceremonies in May 2016. Grand Island Campus honored Adriana ArroyoHerrera of Grand Island. She was born in Mexico City and is the second youngest of 10 children. Adriana immigrated to the United States when she was 20 years old where she learned English and then continued her education. Arroyo-Herrera received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Human Services from CCC-Grand Island in 2011 and went on to earn a Bachelor’s degree in Behavioral Science from Bellevue University in 2012, and a Master’s degree in Counseling from Doane University in 2016. She has worked as a drug and alcohol counselor for The Friendship House for five years. Adriana and her husband, Keith, have three children: Bryton, Adrienne, and Daniel. Hastings Campus honored Connie Helzer of Hastings. She is a Sandy Creek High School graduate who received an Associate of Applied Science degree in Health and Human Services from CCC-Hastings in 1998. She is now working toward a drug and alcohol counselor’s license through Bellevue University. Helzer has been case manager at The Bridge in Hastings since 2009. The Bridge is a long-term treatment center for women who have children and are recovering from addictions. Helzer, who has 22 years of personal experience in sobriety, is responsible for facilitating trauma group meetings, providing referrals, helping clients with daily needs, employment and social services, and redirecting unbeneficial social behaviors and encouraging positive change. Her prior experience includes working as a psych technician at Hastings Regional Center from 1986 to 1990, as secretary for Willmes Flying Service from 1990 to 1994, and providing community support for drug and alcohol clients at South Central Behavioral Services from 1998 to 1999. She was also self-employed providing residential cleaning services from 1994 to 1996 and from 2000 to 2009. Connie’s husband of 15 years, Wade, is also a graduate of CCC and is self-employed as an electrician. She has two daughters, Chellsie and Josie, and two grandsons. 22
Outstanding Alumni “My life changed after receiving my associate’s degree,” she said. “My self-esteem improved and I started being a more productive and responsible member of society. I truly believe that my children’s lives were changed by watching me attend college at CCC. They say they never thought of not going on to college.” Columbus Campus honored Dr. Rony Ortega of Bennington. Dr. Ortega began his college career at CCC-Columbus after graduating from Schuyler Central High School in 1997. He transferred to the University of Nebraska-Lincoln where he received a Bachelor’s degree in Secondary Education. He also earned Master’s degrees in School Counseling and Educational Administration and Supervision and a Doctorate in Educational Administration from the University of Nebraska-Omaha. Although Ortega did not receive his diploma from CCC when he left in 1999, he has since transferred his credits back and been awarded an Associate of Arts degree. Rony, who serves as principal of Alice Buffet Magnet Middle School in Omaha, began his professional career as a Spanish teacher at Elkhorn High School. He has also worked as a high school counselor, athletic director, and assistant principal at both a middle school and a high school. He credits his passion for learning and success to his experiences as a first-generation college student at Central Community College. “I firmly believe community colleges are a first-rate option and a gateway to opportunity for all,” he said. “I consider myself a lifelong learner and believe I work in the greatest profession that allows for continuous learning as well as the opportunity to transform lives through education.” Ortega and his wife, Cara, have three daughters: Gabriela, Ariana, and Natalia. “I am writing to thank you for your generous $1,500 Bernice Blomenkamp Smith Scholarship. I was very happy and appreciative to learn that I was selected as a recipient of your scholarship. I will be going into Business Administration or Accounting and this scholarship will help for my first year. I will be able to achieve my general classes for either one of the majors. I am currently a senior from Lexington High School and the first in my family who will be graduating and attending college. For my first two years I will attend the Lexington Learning Center, then I plan to move on to a university. By awarding me the Berniece Blomenkamp Smith Scholarship, you have lightened my financial burden which now allows me to focus more on the most important aspects of my learning. I hope one day I will be able to help others (which is one of the things I love to do) in big things like you have helped me.” 23

I believe strongly in the role of community colleges and the opportunities they provide to students from all backgrounds. I saw the advantages of a community college education for many students as a high school guidance counselor, and this viewpoint has strengthened during my time as a faculty member at Central Community College. I have personally witnessed the impact of scholarships provided by the CCC Foundation for students in the personal development and education classes I teach. Many students have been able to move to careers that would have only been a dream without the financial assistance they have received. I have seen countless individuals better their lives for themselves, their families, and their communities through support Craig Ratzlaff received through the CCC Foundation. It has been a privilege for me Personal Development to be able to contribute to their success through my donations to the Instructor Foundation.

Direct Scholarship Graph The following graph is a reflection of scholarship funds generated through donations made directly to the CCC Foundation and from earnings on endowed scholarship accounts. Over the past 29 years, the Foundation has distributed $2,680,480 in scholarships to students at all CCC locations.
“On Friday of last week, I was heading out the door when I grabbed the mail from the mailbox and stuck it in my purse. Several hours later, I remembered it was there and opened it. I had a green and white envelope from Central Community College with a letter inside congratulating me on being selected to receive a $1,000 from the Myrtle Grimminger scholarship fund. I was shocked! I have received numerous smaller scholarships in the past, but no single scholarship in the amount of $1,000. As I thought about it the rest of the day, I wondered who Myrtle Grimminger was, as her name sounded familiar, and felt honored to be a recipient of generosity in her name. My curiosity led me to a simple Google search. I came across her obituary. I felt a lump in my throat as I read that she attended night school and was a supporter of Girl Scouts. I realized that I have much in common with Mrs. Grimminger. As a wife to a hard-working man and mother to a vivacious five year old boy and a “coming out of her shell” seven year old girl, I am familiar with the sacrifices involved in having many family obligations and still seeking an education, even if it means attending class at night. And I, too, am a supporter of Girl Scouts, serving as a leader for a troop of energetic Daisy scouts. Although I have had the pleasure of seeing my girls grow by leaps and bounds the last two years, I am still convinced that they have helped me grow more. Please know that I understand and appreciate the hard work that it took to earn this $1,000. Someone else put forth their sweat and energy and then gifted it to me. This means a lot to my family and I, and it will be put to good use as I continue my education as a Registered Nurse. I will continue to work hard, hoping to eventually work towards an Advanced Practice Nurse degree. Please know that you have made a difference for someone who appreciates your generosity very much. Thank you.” 26
Warren & Velda Wilson Foundation In December 2012, the Central Community College Foundation and the Warren & Velda Wilson Foundation (Wilson Foundation) executed documents to begin the process of converting the Wilson Foundation from a private foundation to a public foundation. This conversion is expected to be final in 2018. The process has allowed the Wilson Foundation to consolidate assets with the CCC Foundation. Scholarship awards will now remain consistent and the assets intact into perpetuity. The Wilson Foundation is comprised of the following board members: John Farrell, President, Jennifer Fleischer, Vice President, Lu Loehr, Secretary/Treasurer, Dr. Randy Gilson, Scott Kummer, and Jay Landell. Janet Hajny serves as Ex-Officio. Warren & Velda Wilson devoted more than 60 years to farming in south central Nebraska. The couple had no children of their own and as part of their estate plan, they established an educational foundation to provide scholarships to help deserving young people in the area where they had made their own living. The Wilson’s wrote, “It is our desire that these scholarships not be limited to graduating seniors with only the highest levels of academic achievement.” “Other factors are also important to us including good citizenship, involvement in school and community activities, and potential for future academic success.” Since 2003, when the Central Community College Foundation began coordinating the scholarship, more than $5.6 million has been awarded to 5,214 recipients in nine Nebraska counties within their service area. Those counties are Adams, Clay, Fillmore, Hall, Hamilton, Nuckolls, Thayer, Webster, and York. All scholarship applicants must live in and graduate from a high school in one of those counties to be eligible. Scholarship recipients must also attend an institution of higher education in Nebraska the first year following graduation. This year 241 high school seniors benefited from the $1,250 scholarship for an award of $301,250. They are attending 25 community, public, or private colleges within the state of Nebraska during the 2016-17 academic year. This is a nonrenewable scholarship.

Left to right: Sharon Liske, Foundation Treasurer; Chanda Essink, Administrative Assistant; Jessica Soucie, Development Director; and Pat Stange, Development Coordinator. Front row: Dean Moors, Executive Director. In America, after years of living, learning, and giving, particularly at that point when I know I can no longer pass a pop culture quiz, it sometimes is equally as difficult to know what philanthropic organizations to support or how to do good for others. The one constant over the years has been to have the opportunity to witness and often share in the joy our students have experienced when they have been the recipients of Central Community College Foundation dollars. In education, like any other venue, there are tears of great sadness as well as great joy. In the midst of all the shared sad stories (stories that keep me up at night and often leave me feeling so feeble), hope for so many yet remains alive in what we do together to provide opportunity, services, facilities, and funding for our students.
Bob Glenn Admissions Recruiter Director
I can only hope for all of you the same feelings of humility that giving to this worthy cause has given me over the years. Perhaps, if you will--for your consideration--a lesson in shared gratitude?
