MAPLE KNOLL COMMUNITIES
Maple Knoll Communities continues to be the port for nearly 3,500 older adults throughout the Greater Cincinnati area and over 30,000 WMKV listeners worldwide. We are proud to boost a history of providing a quality lifestyle and being home to seniors who are served in varying levels of care. This includes the exceptional retirement communities of Maple Knoll Village and The Knolls of Oxford, Maple Knoll Outreach Services for Seniors, affordable HUD Senior Living Residences, Village Home Health & Hospice, WMKV 89.3 & 89.9 FM Radio Station, a Montessori Child Center, and the Hemsworth Wellness Center. As we map our own course, we remain dedicated to helping each person achieve, with dignity, the proper balance between independence and assistance. “We have such a friendly, welcoming community, both residents and staff! There are those who wish to remain totally independent and live out their lives at home, and that is one way to plan the future. For us and for others here, this has become home, with the added friendship, support, and safety we get from Maple Knoll and from our extended family here. Whenever we encounter troubles, we have the help we need” –JOHN ANDERSON, MAPLE KNOLL VILLAGE RESIDENT 4

THE KNOLLS OF OXFORD Upon a hill or hillock they say, A thousand points of light, sparkle in the night They lead the way to travelers all. Come rest, why not sit a spell? White swans glide upon the glass, Serene, sublime, grace and ease. The streets of White Tail Run, Woodcrest Way, Creekside Lane and more, All bring kindness, gentleness and love to every door. Parapet towers rise up to say, Here neighbor loves neighbor in every way. Stop by sometime for short or long time-stay. Peaceful as a monastery if that’s your way. The Knolls of Oxford high on a hill Give shelter and care from wintry chill. Through a frosted window pane, The distant meadow sparkles so fine. Rhythmic crackling of room’s log fire, Warms my soul and my memories; alas, I never tire. Soon April’s blossoming will bring the rain, Spring time at the Knolls, like renewing your vows; To you, above all, the promise is held, Till cherry blossoms bloom in yonder field.
“My wife and I are
so happy we moved to The Knolls. The therapy I received helped me get stronger, so I can continue my active life style.”
Spring time at The Knolls is for all to behold, My soul rejoices like the red tulips so bold. Daffodils, daisies, crocus all orange, and saffron too, Bring the great news of life anew, just as foretold. Can you smell the honey blossom from nearby? Can you see the sunlight dance into your room? Can you feel the warm chase away winter’s gloom? White swans have returned to glide upon the glass. Rejoice! MAPLE KNOLL OUTREACH SERVICES FOR SENIORS
Maple Knoll Outreach Services for Seniors staff and volunteers set forth to provide services to over 500 older adults throughout 17 communities this past fiscal year. Meals On Wheels offered through Maple Knoll Outreach Services for Seniors provided more than just a nutritious meal. The program addressed issues ranging from senior isolation to a variety of nutrition programs that help clients manage chronic health issues. The meals are delivered to the client’s door with the help of staff and 80 trained
“I love it! I can’t get out to the grocery store and these meals are balanced and good. The people that deliver are very friendly and helpful. Especially when the bad weather looms, I know I can count on my meals on wheels staff” –SUZANNE VAUGHAN, LOVELAND, MEALS ON WHEELS CLIENT
volunteers, who are often the only people our clients see on a daily basis. Together these individuals delivered 69,000 meals to over 300 older adults. In addition, the program has allowed for over 2,400 pounds of dog food as well as various cleaning supplies to be delivered to help care for client’s furry friends. Mobility and accessibility are essential for independent living, and transportation is the link that allows access to needed services and activities. Transportation plays a vital role in the lives of older adults in our community and no single solution can meet all the mobility needs of these individuals– rather, a variety of services and systems are necessary to do so effectively. Maple Knoll Outreach Services for Seniors played an important part in the independence of over 200 older adults by driving over 49,000 miles to provide 6,500 trips this past fiscal year. Not stopping there, additional services were offered to help older adults stay afloat during their time of need. These included the offering of a Healthy U workshop to better self-manage chronic diseases, facilitating of high school student social service projects to provide lawn beautification to immobile seniors and lastly the revamping of a Friendly Caller Program. The program now includes 60 participants and provides a lifeline to homebound seniors. These services are providing an opportunity for older adults to be active and safe, which not only enriches their quality of life, but also improves health and increases longevity.

Maple Knoll Communities’ leadership team spent the year taking the helm, serving as our captains, navigating our path in the right direction. Their expertise in the management and expansion of existing programs and creation of new opportunities will allow Maple Knoll to secure ongoing financial viability. Maple Knoll Communities also saw the addition of three new members to the Board of Directors and the formation of a Board Media Relations Committee to further promote a positive public perception of Maple Knoll Communities.
As a community we are indebted to these
visionaries who invest not only their time and energy but also their passion for making decisions that will positively impact those we serve.

“I feel that our management and board have respect for me as an employee as well as an individual. I believe my coworkers also have respect for one another as we develop relationships among departments. I feel that there is a respectful bond as we work with our Residents, who they are, where they are in their process as well as our Residents respect us for what we do, how we respond to their needs. All in all we are a family held together by love and respect for one another. That’s why I love working here at Maple Knoll.” -BECKY HAYES-HECKMAN, MAPLE KNOLL EMPLOYEE

Member Fred Robbins was recruited to serve as Chairman of the Annual Fund Campaign. With a theme of “Be the Spark”, this year’s goal was an impressive $1.5 million. This theme acknowledged Maple Knoll Communities’ long history of caring for older adults and asked our over 30 volunteers and thousands of supporters to “be the spark” for the Corporate Annual Fund. Donors unleashed their spark and surpassed this goal with $1,735,815 in contributions. These gifts were received from 1,899 donors who invested in excellence for the older adults we serve. Fundraising efforts allowed for two large improvements on the Maple Knoll Communities campus. The Maple Knoll Village Big Bus arrived on campus after $342,097 in funds were raised for its purchase. Staff successfully wrapped up The Gregg Warshaw M.D.

Health Center Capital Campaign with a total of $750,000 in gifts. Construction on the Health Center began in April and was completed in August. Moving forward, The Knolls of Oxford formed its own fund development committee to have a more local presence on their campus. The committee includes Director of Development Laura Lacy, residents and Oxford community members. They have already identified three capital projects for the upcoming year. Maple Knoll Communities remains deeply grateful to those who made the decision to include our organization in their will or estate plan. Five new individuals were welcomed into the Living Legacy Society which acknowledges estate gifts and outright gifts of $50,000 or more. These individuals are: Mary Jane Fuller, Mary M. Besanceney, Robert White and Kit and John Reller. Their thoughtfulness today provides for Maple Knoll’s tomorrow. UNCOMPENSATED EXPENSES Benevolent Care

“I come to work every day for the residents. At this point in my life and career
I care for them like family members.
I look forward to seeing and interacting with each person. I love hearing their stories and catching up on what has been happening in their life. I am truly blessed to get to be a part of their lives as well someone they turn to for help. I also greatly enjoy working with the staff here at The Knolls, some of them are also like my family. We all have the same goal at the end of the day- to do as much as we can to make life better for the residents, I am proud to be part of a team like that.” -ROBIN RHODUS, KNOLLS OF OXFORD EMPLOYEE

“I have volunteered at Maple Knoll over 35 years. I truly love Maple Knoll and always hoped I would have a chance to serve on the Board of Directors at some point. I am honored that the residents chose me as Resident Director. I firmly believe in our mission and strive to bring a resident’s perspective to the Board and its committees and share with the residents how the Board works. The Board of Directors is very important to make the organizations big decisions.” - PAT BENNETT,

“I donate to the Future Care Fund because, I think about how I would feel if I lost my financial resources and if I needed the help. You’re not thinking about strangers that your helping when you donate,
your helping out people here in our community. Living here at The Knolls of Oxford you think of your neighbors as family, that’s why I give. ” -GINNY MILLER
