Welcome We welcome you to this hour of worship and pray that this time together might be a blessing for all of us. Large print hymnals and hearing impaired receiver units are available in the Narthex by the bulletin board. Just ask an usher. We are also equipped with a Hearing Loop System that can be used with hearing aids featuring a t-coil. If you are a resident of this area and have no church home, we invite you to give consideration to Immanuel. Please worship with us again! We ask that everyone in attendance please take the time to sign our Friendship Register. These red folders can be found in each pew. Thanks! Hearing Loop System We are pleased to offer a Hearing Loop system to aid members & guests with hearing loss. If you wear hearing aids with a telecoil (T-coil), the system will either automatically amplify the sound or you may need to turn that function on. If you do not wear hearing aids or your hearing aids are not equipped with the T-coil, please ask an usher for a headset. If you experience problems with the hearing loop receivers, please ask an usher for help. The hearing loop system also works in the Fellowship Hall.
Service Theme: HOW LOVELY ARE YOUR DWELLING PLACES, O LORD OF HOSTS! Today we thank God for the blessings He pours out on us through Immanuel Lutheran Church. Through the means of Grace offered here the LORD forgives our sins, comforts us in our sorrows, strengthens us when we are weak and provides for us a spiritual refuge from all evil. Let us, therefore, ever treasure this congregation as God’s house, the place where his glory dwells. Opening Hymn: CW 226 “To Your Temple I Draw Near”
Order of Service: Service of the Word (p.38)
Prayer of the Day O Lord, your ears are always open to the prayers of your humble servants, who come to you in Jesus' name. Teach us always to ask according to your will that we may never fail to obtain the blessings you have promised; through Jesus Christ, your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever. First Lesson: Psalm 84 (NASB95) For the choir director; on the Gittith. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. 1 How lovely are Your dwelling places, O LORD of hosts! 2 My soul longed and even yearned for the courts of the LORD; My heart and my flesh sing for joy to the living God. 3 The bird also has found a house, And the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, Even Your altars, O LORD of hosts, My King and my God. 4 How blessed are those who dwell in Your house! They are ever praising You. Selah. 5 How blessed is the man whose strength is in You, In whose heart are the highways to Zion! 6 Passing through the valley of Baca they make it a spring; The early rain also covers it with blessings. 7 They go from strength to strength, Every one of them appears before God in Zion. 8 O LORD God of hosts, hear my prayer; Give ear, O God of Jacob! Selah. 9 Behold our shield, O God, And look upon the face of Your anointed. 10 For a day in Your courts is better than a thousand outside. I would rather stand at the threshold of the house of my God Than dwell in the tents of wickedness. 11 For the LORD God is a sun and shield; The LORD gives grace and glory; No good thing does He withhold from those who walk uprightly. 12 O LORD of hosts, How blessed is the man who trusts in You! Hymn: CW 293 “God’s Word Is Our Great Heritage” Second Reading: Ephesians 4:1–7, 11–16 (NASB95) 1
Therefore I, the prisoner of the Lord, implore you to walk in a manner worthy of the calling with which you have been called, 2 with all humility and gentleness, with patience, showing tolerance for one another in love, 3 being diligent to preserve the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. 4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as also you were called in one hope of your calling; 5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism, 6 one God and Father of all who is over all and through all and in all. 7 But to each one of us grace was given according to the measure of Christ’s gift. . . 11 And He gave some as apostles, and some as prophets, and some as evangelists, and some as pastors and teachers, 12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of service, to the building up of the body of Christ; 13 until we all attain to the unity of the faith, and of the knowledge of
the Son of God, to a mature man, to the measure of the stature which belongs to the fullness of Christ. 14 As a result, we are no longer to be children, tossed here and there by waves and carried about by every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, by craftiness in deceitful scheming; 15 but speaking the truth in love, we are to grow up in all aspects into Him who is the head, even Christ, 16 from whom the whole body, being fitted and held together by what every joint supplies, according to the proper working of each individual part, causes the growth of the body for the building up of itself in love. Verse of the Day Alleluia. Lord, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. Alleluia. (John 6:68 cf. NIV84) Gospel: Matthew 13:44–46 (NASB95) 44
“The kingdom of heaven is like a treasure hidden in the field, which a man found and hid again; and from joy over it he goes and sells all that he has and buys that field. 45 “Again, the kingdom of heaven is like a merchant seeking fine pearls, 46 and upon finding one pearl of great value, he went and sold all that he had and bought it. Sermon Hymn: CW 622 “For Many Years, O God of Grace” Sermon: Psalm 84 Sermon Theme: The LORD has made Immanuel a place where . . . 1) We find a home with the LORD. (1-4) 2) We are strengthened for our journey through life. (5-8) 3) We receive divine grace and glory. (10-12) Apostle’s Creed (Sung to the tune of CW 365 “Love Divine, All Love Excelling” I believe in God the Father, Maker of the heav’n and earth. And in Jesus Christ, our Savior, God's own Son, of human birth. Virgin born, the Lord incarnate, whom the Spirit did conceive, suffered under Pontius Pilate; He's the God whom I believe. Crucified, was dead and buried; Down to hell in victory; From the dead He rose the third day; Up to heaven triumphantly. There at God's right hand He's ruling, by his will the world is led. He will come to judge the nations, both the living and the dead. I believe in God the Spirit; in His Church, His chosen band. They are joined in sweet communion; Holy in his sight they stand. I believe in sins forgiven; I believe I'll rise again; I believe in life eternal. Amen! Amen! Amen! Final Hymn: CW 326 “May The Grace of Christ Our Savior” (The 2nd verse will be sung a cappella after which there will be a brief musical interlude before singing the 3rd verse)
