Girl with a Pearl Earring　

真珠の耳飾りの少女講師：浅見道明

さおりの所属する美術部では、部員が自分の好きな芸術作品について英語でエッセイを書き、ホームページ上で発表しています。さおりは、オランダ人画家ヨハネス・フェルメール (1632 〜 1675) の代表作である「真珠の耳飾りの少女」を選びました。

This is one of my favorite paintings. Have you ever seen it before? It is called Girl with a Pearl Earring. When do you think it was painted? Fifty years ago? A hundred years ago? Actually, it is a very old work of art created by Johannes Vermeer, a famous Dutch painter. It was painted about 350 years ago. I think this picture has some very impressive points. For example, I like the clear blue color of her turban and her shining pearl earring. I also like her wide-open eyes gazing at us. Her image clearly emerges from the pure black background. Isn’t she mysterious? This is a special painting for me. Although it is very mysterious, I feel very close to the girl in it. She has a gentle expression on her face. Moreover, I think she is saying something to me. When I am tired, she whispers, “Saori, are you OK?” Maybe you can hear her voice, too. What is she saying to you?

真珠の耳飾りの少女これは私の大好きな絵の１枚です。みなさんはこれまでにこの絵を見たことがありますか。この絵は「真珠の耳飾りの少女」と呼ばれています。いつ描かれたと思いますか。５０年前ですか。１００年前でしょうか。実は、これは有名なオランダの画家であるヨハネス・フェルメールによって生み出された非常に古い美術作品なのです。約３５０年前に描かれました。この絵にはいくつか非常に印象的な点があると思います。例えば私は、彼女のターバンの澄んだ青色や光り輝く真珠の耳飾りが好きです。私たちをじっと見つめている大きく開いた彼女の目も好きです。彼女の姿は真っ黒な背景からはっきりと浮かび上がっています。神秘的ではありませんか。これは私にとって特別な絵画なのです。とても神秘的ですが、その絵の中の少女にとても親近感を覚えるのです。彼女は顔に穏やかな表情を浮かべています。さらに言えば、彼女は私に何かを語りかけていると思うのです。私が疲れているときには、彼女はこのようにささやきます。「さおり、大丈夫？」と。たぶんあなたも彼女の声が聞こえるでしょう。彼女はあなたに何と言っていますか。
