LIST OF THOSE WHO DIED IN WWII DURING 1940-1945 A letter No. 5259, dated May 27, 1948, from His Excellency the Governor of Curacao was sent to His Excellency the Governor of Aruba to request a thorough investigation and to come up with a list of all those who died in World War II, during 1940-1945. A list of 163 was turned in on August 10, 1948, by Mr. Hubregt Danker, Head of Police, Special Services Section of Aruba and the Bevolkingskantoor (Registry Office), Aruba. There was also a list with 53 names but with no further information. I also did a thorough research for more information, like photos of the vessels, the correct names and dates, etc. Additionally, Mr. Boy Antoin, a well-known Writer and Historian in Bonaire will bring me a diskette with interviews, some photos and names in August when he visits me. On a separate attachment are the photos and information. I have received these official lists from Mr. Henk Ooft, Archivist at the Aruba Government’s National Archive in Oranjestad, Aruba and translated them into the English language for your convenience. BOROM, Ellsworth, a USAAF Pilot, Second Lieutenant on P-39, crashed into the sea, five miles west of north point of Aruba and was killed on December 21, 1943. He belonged to the 32nd Fighter Squadron, based at Aruba. (The squadron’s main base was at Hato, Curacao, but the airplanes were divided between Curacao and Aruba.) 8. ECURY, Secundo Jorge Adelberto – born in Oranjestad, Aruba on April 23, 1922. He was a student in Holland when the war between the Germans and Holland broke out in 1940. He

cooperated with sabotage and attacks against the Germans. He was identified and arrested by the Germans on November 5, 1944. On November 6, 1944, he was executed by the Germans, along with two friends, on the Waalsdorpervlakte in The Hague. Not until January 16, 1947, had they found the remains of Secundo, known as “Boy”, which was identified by his friends. His remains were brought to Aruba on April 16, 1947 by the Hr. Ms.Van Speyk, where he received a burial with military honors. Mr. Johannes Lambertus Walters, former Lago Police was finishing his Dutch Army tenure on board of the Ms. Van Speyk that brought Boy’s remains for the last leg of the journey from Curacao to Aruba. When he finished this assignment, he applied for and got a job in the Lago Police Department after he was interviewed by Chief Brooks. Boy’s monument is at L. G. Smith Boulevard in Oranjestad, Aruba. 43. EMERENCIANA, Louis Nicolaas, born in Bonaire on September 10, 1911; Quartermaster with Lago Shipping Co.; living at Nikiboco, Bonaire; missing on February 16, 1942 s/s Oranjestad. 44. He was doing a (too) low dogfight with another P-39 and hit the water. The aircraft number was 42-18871. He belonged to the 32nd Fighter Squadron, based at Aruba. (Actually the squadron’s main base was at Hato, Curacao, but the airplanes were divided between Curacao and Aruba.) 86.
