WHO IS TMC AND WHAT DOES IT DO? The Technology & Maintenance Council is a diverse group of industry professionals who work together to improve truck equipment and technology. TMC develops industry-recognized recommended practices used by fleet managers to efficiently specify and maintain vehicles. TMC began in 1956 when a small group of maintenance directors sat down with representatives from the truck manufacturing community to discuss recurring equipment maintenance problems. Since then, TMC has grown into an organization of more than 2,450 members with representatives from virtually every sector of the industry: fleets, owner/operators, manufacturers, suppliers, service providers, educators, press, association representatives and technicians.
WHAT BENEFITS DO YOU ENJOY AS A MEMBER? TMC’s two-volume Recommended Maintenance & Engineering Practices Manual with supplements. This CD-based manual (more than 450 individual RPs with illustrations) offers maintenance and specification best practices developed jointly by the industry’s top maintenance and engineering professionals. • An annual subscription to Transport Topics, a weekly newspaper that focuses on current industry issues. (Not provided for Owner/Operator or Technician members.) • Member price for NATMI’s (North American Transportation Management Institute) Certified Director/Supervisor of Maintenance courses. • Monthly council newsletter – Fleet Advisor for maintenance managers. Available on-line for all TMC members. • Fleet Maintenance & Technology, TMC’s technical magazine offering coverage of council news and featuring in-depth articles on topics important to trucking professionals. Mailed quarterly to all members and available on-line. • TMC’s Membership Directory is available on-line and mailed each spring to all TMC members. • The Trailblazer, TMC’s technical journal reports all meeting proceedings. Available on-line. • Substantial discounts on registration and exhibit booth fees for all TMC annual events and up to 25 percent discounts on TMC products and publications, such as the best-seller Radial Tire Conditions Analysis Guide. • Truckers B2B discounts on tires, fuel and back office operations.
WHAT DO INDUSTRY EXPERTS HAVE TO SAY ABOUT TMC? “There is so much knowledge (in TMC) and participating creates your networking group,” said Terry A. Ebert, national fleet manager for JET Transit out of Jasper, Indiana. “You get what you put into it. Each RP that you are part of the development or review process continues to sharpen the saw and keeps me connected to our ever changing industry/technology. Even if you don’t have time to be on a task force or committee, the interactive involvement is of tremendous value.” Ebert has been a TMC member since 1997. “I’ve received a plethora of information from TMC that I’ve used to implement changes and control costs in my company. Most of the new processes and procedures relate to the RP manuals,” said Mike Jeffress, vice president of maintenance with Maverick Transportation, based in Little Rock, Ark. “The changes have improved our overall environment and operation.” Visit http://tmc.trucking.org or www.ATABusinessSolutions.com for more information or call TMC at 703-838-1763.
