MGMA Medical Directorship Compensation Survey: 2014 Report Based on 2013 Data Each year, MGMA surveys its members and nonmembers to obtain the most recent medical directorship compensation data. This year’s survey remains a significant benchmarking tool, representing

Survey Participation by Geographic Section

227 groups and 1,621 providers. The Data Solutions analysts reached the following results and conclusions by current-year trend analyses. These analyses provide a description on factors that influence current compensation. The median is used in the analysis, and the report reflects data submitted for the 2013 fiscal year.

Directorship Compensation Varies Widely across Specialties and Geographic Sections Primary Care physicians in the western geographic section report the highest total annualized directorship compensation at $52,000, while Primary Care compensation is the lowest in the eastern and midwest regions (both at $15,000). Surgical Specialists and Nonsurgical Specialists report the highest directorship compensation in the southern geographic region ($40,080 and $36,000, respectively).

Increase in Number of Responsibilities Positively Correlates with Directorship Compensation As the number of medical directorship responsibilities increase so does the directorship compensation. Primary Care physicians report the greatest stipend increase of 59% as the number of responsibilities jump from 1-5 responsibilities to 11-15 responsibilities. Surgical Specialists report a 50% increase, while Nonsurgical Specialists report just a moderate increase of 17%.

Physicians Responsible for Monitoring Quality of Care Report a Higher Total Annualized Directorship Compensation Surgical Specialists responsible for monitoring quality of care report a 34% increase in total annualized directorship compensation compared to their counterparts not responsible for monitoring quality of care ($38,000 vs. $24,980). Nonsurgical Specialists monitoring quality of care report $6,000 more than those Nonsurgical Specialists who do not monitor quality of care ($36,000 vs. $30,000).
