MicroSeq® Microbial Identification System
Link to Microbial ID, offering low-cost DNA Sequencing by the MicroSeq System
• Revolutionary phylogenetic system provides accurate, reproducible results • Elimination of special growth requirements and preliminary testing for easier use • Rapid identification of difficult samples saves valuable staff time • Rigorous validation of sequence libraries ensures accurate species identification • Innovative software allows users to create and search custom sequence libraries Unmatched Standard for Microbial Identification The MicroSeq® Microbial Identification System is a complete solution for all eubacteria, yeasts, and filamentous fungi. It rapidly identifies slow-growers and non-fermenters (in less than 24 hours) that are often impossible to identify with conventional systems. No prior knowledge of the organism is required since the system uses universal, domain-level primers. Accurate Results A phylogenetic approach based on ribosomal RNA (rRNA) gene sequences makes the MicroSeq system the most accurate microbial identification system available. In fact, the latest edition of Bergey’s Manual of Systematic Bacteriology has been reorganized to reflect these advances in bacterial identification. Objective, Reproducible Identification Method The MicroSeq system eliminates subjective phenotypic or growth-based test interpretation since it is based on
Electropherogram from an ABI PRISM® 3100 Genetic Analyzer of unidentified filamentous fungi isolate.
rRNA gene sequences. Results are reproducible across laboratories and over time, and because the system employs the PCR process, culture conditions do not influence results. Comprehensive and Customizable Libraries Comprehensive sequence libraries contain a vast range of bacterial and fungal species relevant to the branches of applied microbiology in which microbial control and the elimination of contamination are critical. With the flexible MicroSeq software you can create customized libraries for specific sequences of interest derived from proprietary strains.
following a rigorous validation process to ensure accurate species identification. The MicroSeq libraries contain correctly identified organisms and quality controlled sequences unlike other widely available databases. MicroSeq Systems

PRODUCT BULLETIN
Broad Applicability The MicroSeq system contains sequence libraries for a broad range of organisms found in many fields of applied microbiology. The Whole Product Solution Applied Biosystems has combined state-of-the-art instruments, reagents, and software to provide your laboratory with the most advanced, comprehensive system available for accurate microbial identification. All of our products undergo rigorous quality testing to ensure that they meet our performance specifications. The system is supported by our extensive worldwide service organization. For more information, please contact your Applied Biosystems sales representative or your local sales office. Flowchart of the MicroSeq identification process. DNA is extracted in a simple 10-minute procedure with the PrepMan™ Ultra DNA extraction reagent. The DNA is then amplified by PCR and cycle sequenced with easy-to-use master mixes provided in the MicroSeq kits. Samples can be electrophoresed on any ABI PRISM genetic analyzer. Resulting sample files are analyzed and compared to our comprehensive sequence libraries for identification of the unknown sample.
