IX
PROCEDURE IX.A. Cut a 2-3 mm Length of Silastic Tubing to use as the Catheter Collar. IX.B. Cut 30cm Length of Silastic Tubing. IX.C. Stretch the collar over the closed hemostat and then place the tip of the hemostat approximately 5 mm into the longer section of tubing. IX.C.1. Use the fine pointed forceps to pull the collar onto the catheter and pull the collar 2-3 cm from the tip of the catheter. IX.D. Cut off the tip of the silastic tubing that may have been damaged during the previous manipulation to a length of 1 cm from the tip. IX.D.1. Clean the surface with 70% ethanol to remove any oily residue from the surface. IX.E. Secure the collar to the silastic tubing with a small amount of silicone rubber sealant. IX.F. Use the large needle to ensure that the sealant is applied thoroughly to the edges of the collar while the catheter tubing is stretched between the thumb and forefinger. IX.G. Use a Kimwipe to ensure that the surface is smooth and that excess silicone rubber has been removed. IX.H. Cut several openings in the silastic tubing between the collar and the tip. IX.I. Allow the sealant to dry and cure for 24 hours. IX.J. Cut a strip of polypropylene mesh 1 to 1.5cm longer than the length of the catheter from the top of the collar to the tip of the catheter and 2 cm wide.
