Corrosion Protection Coatings Verifying your organic or metallic coatings are resistant to corrosion

Ever wonder how to help customers who build steel enclosures verify that your coatings are resistant to organic or metallic corrosion? If so, then UL can help you. UL provides a certification program just for corrosion protection coatings. This program evaluates organic and metallic coatings for corrosion protection performance. These are coatings which are specifically designed for the protection of metal against atmospheric corrosion when applied to surfaces of steel enclosures and are typically used in outdoor-use environments. UL certifies two different types of coatings: •  Organic coatings including paints and powder coat systems intended for use as protection against atmospheric corrosion of steel enclosures of outdoor-use electrical equipment. •  Metallic coatings, including zinc, zinc-iron and other alloys intended for use as protection against atmospheric corrosion of the steel substrates to which they are applied.

Some of the benefits to this program Protective coatings that have met UL’s requirements and have been certified under UL’s Recognized Component program have the advantage of being published on UL’s Online Certification Directory (www.ul.com/database). A great benefit to being published in the UL’s Online Directory is that an end-use product manufacturer can easily search and find the right corrosion protection coating product for their need. UL recognized metallic and organic coatings differentiate themselves as highly corrosion resistant and are suitable for protecting numerous outdoor end-use products including control panels, transformers, electric fans, outlet boxes, fire dampers, motor compressors, power distribution equipment, landscape lighting, electric vehicle charging systems and

Follow-Up Service (FUS) program. The FUS program is designed to periodically check and test UL certified products to ensure their consistent manufacture and ongoing compliance with recognition program requirements.

UL’s On-line Directory is used by customers globally. The products listed there are viewed by outdoor end-use product manufacturers around the world helping coating manufacturers extend their marketing reach.
