If you share the same interests and passions and possess the right credentials, then read on to find out more: JOB OBJECTIVE: Under the general guidance of the VP, Finance & Risk Management and the Supervisory Committee, the incumbent defines objectives, plans, organizes, directs and controls the internal audit functions. Responsible for the planning and execution of financial, compliance and operational audits of the credit union’s activities to evaluate internal controls and ensure compliance with corporate policies and procedures. Uses independent judgment and experience to carry out a comprehensive internal audit plan that addresses and mitigates identified risks. Documents and communicates audit findings and recommendations to Supervisory Committee and Senior Management. Manages and oversees the internal audit function. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: The incumbent reports directly to the VP, Finance & Risk Management and has indirect reporting relationship to the Chief Financial Officer and the Supervisory Committee. Direct Reports include: Risk Management Specialist (2) Risk Management Analyst (1)

NATURE & SCOPE: 

Actively supports and fosters the credit union’s mission, vision and core values.



Utilizes ongoing risk assessments and audit/review results to maintain a comprehensive, longrange audit program for the entire credit union. Responsible for the annual audit plan for the credit Page 1 of 4

union and communication related to the plan. Monitors and communicates results of the audit plan in a timely manner and reviews corrective actions as appropriate. 

Prepares and presents an annual audit work plan identifying areas of priority, general scope of work and completion dates for approval by the Supervisory Committee.



Prepares regular reports on progress of work related to the audit plan for the VP, Finance & Risk Management and the Supervisory Committee.



Prepares and delivers reports, both written and oral, to management and the Supervisory Committee.



Develops the internal audit program to complement the work of the external auditors and regulatory examiners.



Ensures that internal controls are adequate to ensure compliance with the respective goals, objectives, policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.



Coordinates the credit union’s internal audit efforts with external audits and reviews.



Serves as a liaison between regulatory examiners, outside auditors and credit union staff.



Ensures all audits are performed in accordance with professional internal audit standards.



Performs special studies and examinations requested by the VP, Finance & Risk Management, Chief Financial Officer or the Supervisory Committee.



Monitors management’s corrective actions to audit, examination and/or review findings, including appropriate testing of such actions, to ensure prompt and accurate resolution of identified concerns.



Maintains complete files documenting audit procedures used, all completed audit reports and written responses to such reports.



Consults with management as needed to ensure that appropriate procedures are implemented whenever areas of concern are identified.



Ensures the credit union’s compliance with all laws and regulations that affect the organization, through audit processes and through consulting with management as necessary.



Develops and coordinates audit schedules, budgets, and requirements for audit assignments and continuing education.



Maintains effective communication with all employees to ensure coordination and exchange of information for accomplishing credit union goals and objectives. Uses interpersonal communication skills to ensure issues are handled in a fair and professional manner. Maintains a high level of confidentiality relative to any information received directly or indirectly at all times.



Administers human resource policies within area of responsibility. Manages, supervises, hires, fires, evaluates, trains and develops, coaches, counsels, and appraises performance of employees in a fair and timely manner. Page 2 of 4



Attends work-related courses and regularly reviews industry publications to remain informed of all regulatory and industry changes affecting the audit function and the credit union. Maintains professional and community contacts that relate to job responsibilities.



Conduct investigations of actual or suspected internal fraud.



Ensures that any serious concerns with regard to the audit function are reported directly to the Supervisory Committee and the President/CEO.



Performs other duties as required.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, & ABILITIES: 

Requires an undergraduate degree in Accounting, Auditing, Business or related discipline.



At least five years’ experience in a management role responsible for the internal audit function.



At least two years of work experience in internal audit either within a financial institution or as a professional outside auditor with direct experience auditing financial institutions.



Certifications: Certified Internal Auditor (CIA)-required; Certified Financial Services Auditor (CFSA), Certified Risk Professional (CRP) or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) are other certifications that are desirable.



Broad knowledge of accounting, auditing and internal control principles, practices and theory; and of credit union and/or financial institution operations, products and services, regulations, technology and law. Proficiency in GAAP, in-depth knowledge of internal audit standards, procedures and techniques required for performing engagements and best practices.



Ability to work independently and as a team member, using discretion in decision-making and sound judgment in problem solving.



Ability to assign reasonable risk ratings and prioritize internal audit work such that the majority of effort is spent on the highest risk areas first, then medium risk.



Experience working with all Microsoft Applications such as Word, Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint.



Strong analytical and quantitative skills, along with highly complex conceptual thinking ability, and the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously to meet work deadlines.



Ability to interface and communicate both orally and in writing in a positive, professional manner with all levels of staff within the organization.



Strong computer skills, advanced abilities with word processing and spreadsheet software, and working knowledge of on-line financial institution computer systems.



Ability to interact effectively with co-workers, understand and follow policies and procedures, accept constructive criticism, and lead and manage others. Page 3 of 4



Ability to operate standard business machines such as computer, printer, fax, copier and telephonic devices.

MAJOR ACCOUNTABILITIES: 

Develops annual internal audit plan for credit union, monitors and reports audit results, and reviews corrective actions as appropriate.



Develops and maintains a comprehensive, long-range program for internal audit for credit union.



Directs the credit union’s internal audit program.



Directly manages and supervises a staff within the internal audit function.



Provide consultation and advice to all levels of staff on internal audit issues.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: 

Must possess excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.



Must be able to tolerate periods of continuous sitting.



To keep knowledge, skills and network contacts current, employee must be able to travel to occasional offsite training, conferences, networking functions and other meetings as required.

ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS: 

Work is primarily performed within an enclosed office setting, subject to standard background noise typical of an office environment.

Note: Staff is expected to perform various tasks, projects and administrative duties as assigned. Management reserves the right to assign or change duties and tasks to this position at their discretion.
