Pergamum: Satan's Throne a novel Sharon Dow

“Sharon Dow’s second book proves to be another eye-opening novel that dramatically portrays the power of God and the life-changing relationship one can experience with Jesus Christ.” —Jean Morby host, Young at Heart Show on Faith FM 94.3 Kitchener, Ontario, Canada; author, Rainy Day Activities and Hands of Gold

After Antipas is martyred at the altar to Zeus for his outspoken convictions on Christ, the remaining Christians in Pergamum must flee for their lives. With the Roman emperor’s grip tightening, evil forces behind the scenes aim to root out the growing followers of The Way and destroy the church. Marcus and Paulus, brothers of the martyred Antipas, have chosen different paths. Marcus, a brute temple guard, remains loyal to Zeus, who many attest is the one true god of Pergamum. Paulus follows in Antipas’ footsteps as one who fearlessly proclaims the Gospel. Enraged, Marcus disowns his brother and swears him as enemy. A battle for the fate of Pergamum is inevitable. In this sequel to the heart-pounding Antipas: Martyr, Sharon Dow continues the vibrant story of persecuted Christians banding together within the sinister walls of Pergamum, the very lair of Satan’s throne.

Who will be saved and who will choose the easy way out? Amid the rubble, will the new Christians emerge victorious, with their faith strong and vital? For more information contact Rhonda Funk at Bring It On Communications [email protected] or (541) 549-1099 www.bringitoncommunications.com

Biography of Sharon Dow Sharon Dow has a passion to shed light on the unspoken heroes of the Bible. As Bruce Wilkinson drew attention Jabez, (an overlooked man of the Bible who delivered a powerful prayer), Sharon Dow brings to life Antipas. Only mentioned in Revelation 2:13, Anitpas was a martyr for the Christian faith—described as a faithful witness of Christ Jesus, and as one dwelling and ministering where Satan had his seat. A sequel to her first book, Antipas; Martyr, Sharon continues the legacy left by the fearless follower Antipas by picking up with his brothers who have chosen a completely different path. Sharon grew up in a family where education and books were considered important. Her mother often became frustrated trying to find enough books to satisfy her daughter’s love of reading. It seemed only natural that Sharon would follow a course of education, graduating from the University of New Brunswick with a degree in education. She spent twenty-seven years in the field teaching junior high, serving as vice-principal, and finally as principal of an elementary Christian school. She loves reading, gardening, scrapbooking, and watching her six grandchildren grow and develop. It has been her lifelong dream to write and publish books. This is her first novel. She has three grown sons and lives in Guelph, Ontario with her husband, George. Professional and Educational History: • Teacher’s license and Elementary Education degree from the University of New Brunswick • Former Teacher of Junior High • Former Vice principal and Principal of a Christian Elementary School Other Books Published: Antipas; Martyr (Deep River Books 2012) For more information please contact Rhonda Funk at Bring It On Communications [email protected] or (541) 549-1099 www.bringitoncommunications.com

Suggested Interview Questions for Sharon Dow author of

Pergamum; Satan's Throne Q. What led you to write a sequel to the book Antipas: Martyr? A. I discovered I was very attached to the characters. I personally wanted to know what happened in their lives. I was also curious as to what would happen to the new converts now that their leader had been martyred. There was only one solution; write a sequel. Q. What led to the persecution of the Christ-followers? A. Both the civic leaders and the religious leaders of Pergamum hated the Christ-followers and wanted to eliminate them. They thought by persecuting them, many would turn back to Zeus worship. They didn’t realize that following Christ is life-changing. Q. Why were the leaders so against the Christ-followers? A. I think it was fear. They were power-hungry and they were losing power and losing face when many people turned to Christ. Q. Was Emperor Worship a big thing in Pergamum? A. Yes, Emperor Worship was prevalent throughout the Roman Empire. The Emperors were very powerful and expected their subjects to worship them. Q. What do you hope readers will take away from this book? A. I want them to first of all, recognize that all of us need Christ in our lives. Then I hope they will be challenged in their own walk with the Lord and ask themselves, “Could I stand up to this type of persecution?” I think this is very relevant in our times as Christians in many countries of the world are suffering persecution. It’s a very real thing today. Q. What are you working on now? A. I have just completed the manuscript for “Huldah: Prophetess.” She was the prophetess when Josiah was King. When he ordered the cleaning of the temple and they found the portion of scripture, she was the prophetess who identified it as scriptures. She’s found in 2 Kings 22 and 2 Chron. 34. Q. Why have you chosen obscure Biblical characters for your stories? A. For two reasons; I love being creative and building characters and scenes and not having to stick to many facts; but I also love to do research. I like my books to have the flavor of the times and be as accurate as I can make them. So obscure Biblical characters fits both of my writing loves. I also would like to bring to life the lives of these people who managed to have their names recorded in Scriptures. I don’t think we should ignore them and skip over them lightly. Q. Are you writing other books? A. Yes, I’m writing more books using obscure Biblical characters and thinking of titling the series, “The Unsung Series - The Lives of Lesser Known Biblical Characters.” The next one after Huldah will be about Sapphira. Outside of that I have plans for at least ten other books and maybe a few more. I keep getting ideas, so hopefully more! Q. Do you have a website where readers can connect with you?
