This school year the Santiam Christian school board members have committed to pray for all of the Santiam Christian employees. Each of the board members has been assigned employees to get to know and lift up in prayer. Join the board in praying for our administration, teachers, support staff, and custodial crew both in the roles they have at SC and in their personal lives. A few highlights from this past month: • Approval of the purchase of three used buses to replace some of the older vehicles in our fleet • Elementary Building Committee provided an update on site visits made to other school campuses • Policy updates approved • Approved the completion of a land survey to aid in preparation of a Master Site Plan The board is always on the lookout for future board nominations. If you are excited about Santiam Christian or know someone who is and would like to learn more about serving SCS in this capacity, please contact David Mendenhall at

SC Cross Country Headed to state At the 3A/2A/1A Special District 2 Cross Country Meet on Friday, Santiam Christian qualified 9 athletes to run at the State Championship meet on Saturday, November 4 at Lane Community College. The girls race is at 10 a.m. and the boys run at 10:35 a.m. At district, the top 5 individuals qualify as well as the top 2 teams for girls, and top 3 teams for boys. Sophomore Ainsley Beam and freshman Ann Livingston qualified for state by finishing 4th and 5th in the girls race. Freshman Anna Eby rounded out the top SC runners with an 11th place finish. In their first time fielding a complete girls team (5-7 runners) in years, the SC team finished 3rd in district and just narrowly missed going to state by a margin of 4 points. The boys team was led by senior Paul Lim, who earned a 10th place medal. The boys team, consisting of Lim, Matthew Kontra, Carson Post, Austin Bradford, Sam Barton, Josh Chapin and Andrew Cowan, qualified by finishing in 3rd place. Just 6 points separated the 2nd-4th place teams. The boys team has previously missed going to state by the smallest of margins the last 3 years, so there was much cause to celebrate this year. In the JV races, Hannah Maupin earned a 3rd place ribbon for girls and Ryan Boggs finished in 9th place for the boys. SC car decals If you haven’t picked up your car decal yet, come to the Development Office in the Admin building to get one for your family. We had a generous donor purchase a car decal for every SC family. Let’s show our school spirit and get our decals on our cars.

Event components include evaluation of a six classes of dairy cattle, oral reasons of three classes, herd record evaluation, and team analysis and collaboration of feeds & nutrition on a dairy farm. The event is one of the many educational activities at the National FFA Convention & Expo in which FFA Members demonstrate their ability to apply classroom knowledge to real-life situations. Santiam Christian FFA competed at local and state levels to earn the privilege of representing Oregon in the national contest. In addition to the team winning Silver, each member competed individually as well. The individual scores were tallied together to determine the overall team score. SC team members earned the following individual medals: · Gracie Krahn – Gold · Madison Kuhn – Silver · Matthew Mehlschau – Silver · Rhyan Reid – Silver Kyndall Davis also competed in the National FFA Dairy Handlers Contest where she earned a Silver Medal. Through participation in the Dairy Handlers Activity, students learn to work with others in a way that is cooperative, courteous, and helpful in the show ring. They are also evaluated on how they handle dairy cattle while in the show ring. The SC FFA Team was coached by Mrs. Krahn, who has a rich history of dairy cattle evaluation. Mrs. Krahn has helped coach collegiate dairy judging teams for OSU in the past and has competed nationally as a collegiate judging team member as well. Mrs. Krahn hopes to train another SC FFA team to compete nationally in dairy evaluation again in the near future.

Operation Christmas child It’s time for our annual Operation Christmas Child shoe box drive, with the 6th graders leading the the way! Students in all grades are encouraged to participate to help provide shoe box gifts to hurting and needy children around the world and here at home. It’s always encouraging to the younger students to see their SC big brothers and sisters continue to come together and fill shoe boxes that are packed with love and covered with prayer knowing that this leads to an open door to share the gospel with children and families all around the world. Won’t you consider filling a box also? There are some new guidelines from Samaritan’s Purse regarding shoe box gifts, so please check out their website for items that can/can’t be included. The collection days here at school will be November 14-16, and then the 6th graders will be delivering the boxes from our school on the 17. Join the fun! This is a redemption program that SC has been benefited from greatly over many years. Please submit all Labels for Education coupons by December 15 at the latest. They can be dropped off in either the Elementary Office, or in the Administration Office, as usual. There are collection receptacles in both locations. Please note that at this time, they will only accept the specially marked Labels for Education coupons (approx 1” x 2”), and will not accept Campbells Soup can labels without the coupon. This does NOT effect the General Mills Box Tops for Education program...it remains in effect, as usual. Those coupons can still be submitted in both offices, as well. We are no longer collecting Santiam Foods Labels due to minimal results. The drink pouch redemption program is also no longer viable, having ended last school year. In summary, submit Campbells Labels for Education coupons until December 15; submit Box Tops for Education coupons as usual, and all other programs are not being offered at this time. Thank you for your continued support...we raise 1000’s of dollars per year through these efforts.
