GRAY, THOMAS JEFFREY Tom lost his battle with cancer on August 2, 2017 at the Chapman House Hospice in Owen Sound. He passed quietly with his family at his side at the age of 62. Tom is survived by his wife Linda (nee McConnell), his daughter Sarah Gray and his grandson Aiden McKee. He also leaves behind his mother Ruth and his brother Rick. Tom was a loving and gentle soul who put his family above all else. His patience was legendary (especially when it came to his grandson) but it was his dry wit and his sense of fairness that engendered him to the hearts of all who knew him – family and co-workers alike. Tom was that exceptional person with the logical mind of an engineer and the creative flair of an artist. Whether he was creating the plans for a city street at his job or working on a leather carving at his home, you could always guarantee the results would be exceptional. A bit of a “Renaissance Man”, he could (and often did) repair his own tractor and farm equipment on his beloved twenty acre paradise, design and build flowing gardens and beautiful water features, or wire, plumb and drywall a house. Tom loved all creatures great and small, from the small bugs he helped his grandson Aiden hunt for on the farm to the horses he cared for and occasionally rode until he could no more. Although he cursed the mess the stray cats would make in his barn, he still put food out for them so they wouldn’t go hungry. Tom loved working on his farm, riding his motorcycle with his friends, and helping out friends, neighbours and family whenever he could. He was a quiet gentle force in the lives of all who knew him. He will be greatly missed. A celebration of Tom’s life will be held at the farm which will be informal and casual – true form to Tom’s character. The eulogy will take place at 11 a.m. on Saturday August 12th and people are free to come and go anytime throughout the day to share ‘refreshments’ and a hug. “Tom was the love of our lives and he meant so much to so many people that celebrating his life will be easy while saying goodbye has been excruciatingly hard.” If so desired donations to Chapman House Hospice would be appreciated and may be made through the Ferguson Funeral Home, 48 Boucher St. E., Meaford, ON N4L 1B9 to whom arrangements are entrusted. www.fergusonfuneralhomes.ca
