News for This Week and Beyond

News for this week There is no school for scholars this Friday October 20th, therefore, scholars will submit their practice packets on Thursday October 19th. Scholars should complete the three spelling tic-tac-toe activities on the 3-column template provided on the back of the tic-tac-toe page. Additional pages that are attached for the spelling tic-tac-toe will not be accepted. Character Trait of the Month: Self-Control Our school-wide character trait and focus for the month of October is selfcontrol. Scholars have been introduced to the character trait and have learned about what it means to show self-control in school, at home, and in their communities. Now is the time for scholars to exhibit what self control looks like, sounds like, and feels like. We ask that our fifth grade parents and guardians remind their scholars to practice self-control everyday before coming to school. Upon retiring home from school, we ask that parents and guardians ask scholars id they showed self-control while reviewing their soaring stripes color in their agenda book. If they did, how did they show self-control. If they did not, ask them "what happened when you didn't show self-controll" and "what can you do next time to show self-control?" Please remember to check your child's agenda book daily to see any notes from the teacher, and to check your child's behavioral/character progress indicated by the color they've earned that day.

It's Field Trip Time ! We are in the process of planning our first field trip of the school year! The tentative date is Thursday, November 30th. The trip will be to the National Museum of the American Indian, located on the National Mall in Washington D.C. We will attend the museum in honor of Native American Heritage month and as a closing activity to our unit about Native American culture and contributions to society. We NEED 10 chaperones for this field trip. Chaperones must have the appropriate background check on file with PGCPS. Please contact Ms. Alexander as soon as possible if you would like to chaperone this field trip. Chaperones will be allowed to ride the bus to and from the museum along with the teachers and scholars.
