Scandinavian designers always start with the person who’s going to use an object and ask, “What can we do to make this person’s life better, easier or more comfortable ? ” We’ve always used this philosophy when we design our cars. So, while other car manufacturers might start with technology and try to squeeze people in around it, we begin by designing our cars around you. We ask what you need, and then use our technical skills to make your life easier, better, safer and more beautiful. Form follows function, and when you design a car inside and out with people in mind, it looks naturally beautiful. We think that looking at and interacting with our cars should make you feel great, every day. Designing cars around people has led to many innovations over our
88-year history. You know the threepoint safety belt in your current car ? That was our invention from 1959. And now we’re working towards our vision to design cars that should not crash. In the shorter perspective, our aim is that by 2020 nobody should be killed or seriously injured in a new Volvo. Of course, you’ll already benefit from this research in your current Volvo. We’ve addressed a few environmental issues, too – in 1976, we developed the lambda sond – a sensor that monitors exhaust gas, reducing emissions and boosting performance as well as economy. It’s still part of every petrol-engined car in the world. Innovation is at the core of Volvo Cars – it’s because of where we come from.
For drivers looking for luxury with thrills, we present the Volvo S60 Cross Country, a touch of Swedish luxury for your adventurous spirit. A unique combination of saloon styling and rugged packaging that take you beyond usual city roads. The S60 Cross Country conveys an imposing, muscular presence that echoes its capable nature. It possesses a unique combination of coupe-like style and tough capability to take adventurous drivers further, whatever the weather and wherever the destination. Along with a raised ride height, the Volvo S60 Cross Country’s black fender extensions and scuff plates indicate that this is a capable adventurer. However, this

We’ve designed the cockpit around you, the driver. Get inside and feel in complete command as the dashboard gently angles towards you. We were inspired by highperformance motorbikes when we came up with the idea of a single round instrument flanked by two smaller dials. Then, we carefully sculpted the three-spoke steering with the aim of giving you a very physical sense of connection between your car and the road. But, where you sit is even more important.

SENSUS A great experience on the road should include both the way your car drives and the way you feel when you drive it. So, we developed Sensus, a suite of technologies to connect you with your car and the world around you. Each feature is thoughtfully designed, allowing you to control and personalize every aspect of the drive, because we want you to love your car as much on the inside as you do on the outside.
All-Wheel Drive (AWD) The advanced AWD system with Instant Traction™ has an electronic management system that constantly monitors the speed of the wheels, the throttle, engine torque, engine speed and the brakes. As driving conditions change, wheels with the best grip get the most power. When a tyre loses traction, power is reduced to that wheel and instantly transferred to the more sure-footed wheels. This lets you stay in control even on the most dangerous and unpredictable roads.
Dynamic Stability and Traction Control (DSTC) DSTC (Dynamic Stability and Traction Control) enhances driving stability in slippery conditions, by comparing the rotation of the drive wheels and varying the power supply as needed. The Advanced Stability Control (ASC) detects slowly built up skids at an early stage and compensates this with greater precision. Corner Traction Control (CTC) by Torque Vectoring balances the torque between the front wheels during acceleration while cornering – the torque is being re-distributed from a spinning inner wheel to the outer wheel – this reduces understeer and increases traction. This enhances stability when cornering at higher speeds.
Hill Descent Control (HDC) Hill Descent Control offers a smooth and controlled hill descent on steep, rough and slippery roads. Simply push the Hill Descent Control button and the vehicle will descend using the brake system to control each wheel’s rotating speed. It also makes it easier to begin acceleration when towing a trailer or pulling a boat up a boat ramp. The technology also works in reverse gear.
