Great Work This week I have seen some wonderful work completed by the students at William Ruthven PS. In particular I was very impressed by the work of Mikalee and Riley for their integrated studies work, Andrew for his story writing and Raymond for his book work. It is great to see the students taking pride in their work. Before and After School Care We have a very successful after school care program operating at William Ruthven PS. Some parents use the program every night whilst other parents use the program on a needs basis. Some families have their child stay for the full period, whilst other families use it for as little as 30 min per night. The program is heavily subsidised by the Federal Government so the cost to families is minimal. If you would like you child to attend the after school program contact the office for more information. With this newsletter is an expression of interest for a before school care program. We need a minimum of 10 students attending the before school care program for it to be a viable program. If you are interested please complete the attached form and return it to school. Early arrivals We have had a number of students arrive extremely early in the morning, some as early as 7:45am. A reminder to parents, students should not arrive at school before 8:40am. Prior to this time we are unable to provide adequate supervision. If you need to send your child early please complete the before school form so that we can establish a supervised program for students before school. Parent information night On Monday night we had our parent information night. It was a very informative night that was well attended by the parents. On speaking to some of the parents, they found it very useful to learn about how we go about educating their child and how they can help them at home. Thank you to all those parents who attended the night and thank you to those teachers who gave up their time to attend and support the students. Parent Helpers Parent helpers play an important role in the daily lives of the students and teachers at William Ruthven PS. Parents are able to help out in a variety of ways, from hearing and changing readers, to helping out with our Perceptual Motor Program. Earlier this week an expression of interest to help out as a parent helper form was sent home. If you are able to help, please complete the form or contact the office. Thank you to those parents who have already sent back their form. Allan Waterson Principal

Our Preps would like to share the wonderful work they have been doing so far. Each week a prep student is chosen to take Charlie Bear or Lola Bear home. These lucky bears get to spend the weekend with our students and their families. The students along with some help from mum and dad get to write about the wonderful adventures they share with the Bears. The Adventures of Charlie Bear – Prep A. Ms Di Charlie Bear had a lot of fun with me on the weekend. We went to the park Charlie Bear liked going on the seesaw. We read lots of books and Charlie Bear watched me play my Mario Brothers game on my 3DS. It was a lot of fun. By Jai On Friday Charlie Bear came home with me for the weekend. When we got home from school Charlie Bear had a ride on Bella. We played in my bedroom with Amy horse and Charlie came for a ride with me on my scooter. On Sunday we went to Time Zone and played lots of games and Dad and I got to get a photo there. I hope you had fun at my house, Charlie Bear. By Hannah Charlie Bear had lots of fun with me. We both watered the flowers after we went to the park and played on the swing. Charlie Bear went to the skateboard park. We went on the skateboard and slid up and down at the skateboard park. I really hope Charlie Bear had fun with me. By SiFeng The Adventures of Lola Bear – Prep B. Ms B I took Lola Bear with me to my friends place. We played together and Lola was the baby. Introducing the staff Miss R I have come to this school this year as a new teacher working with the grade 1 and 2’s. So far this year I have loved meeting all the friendly teachers, parents and students at William Ruthven Primary School. I have a younger brother named Stephen and a younger sister named Michelle. I also have a pet dog at home. Her name is Lucy. My favourite show to watch is My Kitchen Rules.

Ms D I was lucky enough to do my final university placement with the WRPS Grade 3/4s last year, and then luckier again to be offered my first job with the Grade 3/4s for 2013! Having already had some experience here, I am over the moon to be continuing to work with all the lovely learners, teachers and families at WRPS. I am an avid knitter, cat lover and gardener. I have thoroughly enjoyed all the fun, learning and laughter with the Grade 3/4 area so far – and look forward to much more..

Jokes of the Week

Who Am I? I am 10 years old and have dark brown eyes and black hair. I am in the grade 5. I have an older brother. I enjoy listening to music and my follow the mighty Magpies in the football. I don’t like tomatoes and I don’t have any pets.

Why did the chicken join the band? Because he had the drumsticks! Why couldn’t the two elephants go swimming together? Because they only had one pair of trunks! Why was the music teacher not able to open his classroom? Because his keys were on the piano! Why did the jellybean go to school? To become a smartie! What object is king of the classroom? The ruler!
