11. Complete the data table on the following page by changing the mass as shown and recording the length of the year in seconds, and also measuring the distance from the planet to the sun at the closest point (perihelion) and farthest point (aphelion). (Make sure slider is set to most accurate)
Adjust the boxes under “mass” to the right based on the numbers in the data table.
The ruler is shown to the right. The crosshairs with the yellow circle should be placed on the Sun before hitting “Start.” The red cross on the right can be pulled to make it longer/shorter. The distance is shown underneath.
How to Measure: Start with the one side of the ruler on the Sun. Allow the simulation to run, and you should see an image similar to the one on the right. Take the end of the ruler that is not on the Sun and measure to the right, left, up, and down. Below, write the closest distance (smallest number) and furthest distance.
