November 7, 2011 Dear Parents/Guardians: SATEC @ W.A. Porter C.I. is a specialized school located in west Scarborough. The school is a high tech academy that offers a unique and challenging academic program. SATEC sets high standards for its students in terms of academic rigour and responsible behaviour. The structured learning environment requires students to wear uniforms and adhere to a strict code of behaviour. A contract, which outlines expectations for academic performance and attendance, must be signed by students and parents. All In-Area students may apply for admission to the specialized program. Out-of-Area students may only apply to the specialized program. Students accepted to SATEC’s specialized program will be required to take the following Academic Grade 9 & 10 courses: SATEC @ WA Porter CI –Specialized Program Grade 9 Grade 10 • English • English • Math (Enriched) • Math (Enriched) • Science (Enriched) • Science (Enriched) • French • History of Canada • Geography • Civics/Careers • Healthy Active Living (Phys Ed) • Two of the following: o Computer & Information Science • Exploring Technology o Computer Engineering • Art o Technological Design o Tradigital Art o Introduction to Business o Vocal Music & Digital Recording o Computers in Music • One of the following. o Healthy Active Living o French o Dramatic Arts. All students who wish to apply for admission to SATEC’s specialized program must complete the application package found on our website (www.satec.on.ca under the Admissions menu) and write an Entrance Test by the deadlines shown on the next page. If you wish to un-register for the Entrance Test, please send an email to our guidance secretary ([email protected]). In-area applicants who wish to attend SATEC’s regular program need to see their current Guidance Counsellor regarding attending SATEC. We look forward to receiving your applications. SPECIALIZED PROGRAM ADMISSIONS REGISTRATION PROCESS 2012/2013 November 24th 2011 • Attend the open house from 6:30 PM – 8:30 PM • Attend one of the Information Meetings at 6:30 PM or 7:30 PM • Visit website for more information and Frequently Asked Questions about the SATEC admission process. December 7th, 2011 • Notify your intent to apply and register for the Entrance Test by completing the on-line form found under the Admissions page of the SATEC website. • If you have an IEP or ESL consideration, submit it to SATEC for Entrance Test accommodations. December 12th, 2011 • Entrance Test will be from 5:00 pm until 8:00 pm. • The following items are required to be brought to the Entrance Test: i. The completed (and signed) Registration Application. ii. Out-Of-Area Students must submit the completed (and signed) Optional Attendance Form (Obtained from your Grade 8 Guidance Counsellor). iii. Grade 8 November Progress Report Card. iv. The $10.00 administration fee (cash, non-refundable, exact change). If there is difficulty with paying the administration fee, please see a SATEC administrator prior to the testing day. v. A pencil, an eraser and a scientific non-graphing calculator for the exam. By February 15th, 2012 • Parents & Elementary Schools will be mailed the Conditional Offer of Acceptance or nonacceptance. February 28th, 2012 • Parents must confirm the Conditional Offer of Acceptance by: i. Submitting a completed Course Selection Sheet to your elementary guidance counsellor. ii. Phoning (416-396-3365 x20040) or emailing ([email protected]) SATEC’s Guidance Department.
