EMERGENCY DEPARTMENT Our Emergency Department is an immediate access clinic run by Consultants. We can provide you with: Immediate access to a Consultant’s opinion Same day investigations Immediate management plan Prompt discharge letter Cardiology, General Surgery, Medical, Orthopaedic and Urology patients can be seen at the Emergency Department. The Emergency Department offers a dedicated GP phone line which is manned by an Emergency Nurse to facilitate direct referrals and discussion of individual cases. How much will it cost? All patients presenting to the Emergency Department will be charged €145 regardless of their insurance cover. Additional tests such as bloods and x-rays will be extra (for individual rates please consult our Emergency Department administrator at 01 – 645 9016).

Should a patient be admitted, then the Health Insurer may cover all costs EXCEPT the initial €145 consultation fee. We will also endeavour to communicate the outcome of each patient’s visit to the
referring GP the following day. This can be done by phone, fax or email and the department will work with each GP to tailor this response to accommodate the need of their individual practices.

Our department is currently open from 9am to 5pm Monday to Friday (GP direct access). We are happy to facilitate your patients with a routine appointment within a week and same day testing for urgent referrals.

NEuRoPhYsioloGY DEPARTMENT The Neurophysiology department provides diagnostic testing for seizures, encephalopathy/confusion, non epileptic seizures, carpal tunnel syndrome, poly-neuropathy, compression neuropathies, radiculopathy, myopathy, neuromuscular junction disorders, autonomic disorders, multiple sclerosis (evoked potentials) and trigeminal disorders. Details of specific tests available include: Routine EEG’s Sleep Deprived EEG’s Telemetry Studies Testing for Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (NCS) Upper and lower limb nerve conduction studies (NCS) EMG clinics Repetitive stimulation (testing for Neuromuscular junction disorders) Blink responses (assessment of trigeminal nerves)

REsPiRAToRY DEPARTMENT The Respiratory / Sleep Studies Department provides: Pulmonary Function Tests: used to confirm the diagnosis and track the progression of respiratory disease, as well as enabling clinicians to assess an individual’s response to a given therapy. Mannitol Challenge Test: used to confirm the diagnosis of asthma when there is diagnostic uncertainty. Skin Prick Allergy Test: these include foods, inhalants (pollen, dusts, and animal dander), insect bites and drugs. Skin tests have been proven to be of benefit in the diagnosis of the allergy blood test (RAST). Skin allergy tests have the advantage of providing results almost immediately. Sleep Studies: A Sleep Study is a diagnostic recording of physical activities that occur during your sleep time. The patient will spend the night in hospital. Electrodes (no needles) are used in the test to record the activities, this assists the sleep technician in gathering the information necessary to determine the amount and quality of sleep that you get, and to measure and time any physical change or awakenings that might occur during the study.
