Terms of Reference Senior Brand Assistant (General Service Temporary Appointment) Strategic Communications Section UNHCR is recruiting for a General Service (Temporary Appointment) position in our Copenhagen, Denmark. The successful candidate will be based in UN City, working in the brand unit of the Strategic Communication Section in the Division of External Relations. Organizational context The Strategic Communication Section advances the organization’s strategic and communications objectives through research, big data capture and analysis, insight sharing, consistent global strategic communications including UNHCR’s brand identity, and internal communications. We provide guidance on strategic communication planning and on brand, we inform Key Performance Indicator development, and we foster integrated working. The team is headed by the Chief of Section, based in Geneva, and includes three functions: 1.

Communications monitoring, analysis and research (based in Copenhagen), 2. Internal communications (based in Geneva) and 3. Brand (based in Copenhagen).

The position We are seeking a dynamic and proactive team player, with not-for-profit brand, fundraising or marketing experience and a strong interest in refugee issues, to fulfil a vital role within UNHCR. You will help raise the profile of UNHCR, embed the brand internally and work across different teams to promote an integrated approach and to inspire engagement with the brand strategy. You will work closely with members of the Strategic Communications Section, as well as with the Digital Engagement Section and the Private Sector Partnerships Service. You will support the development of brand knowledge, confidence and consistency across the organization, as well as providing counsel on raising awareness of, and engagement with, UNHCR and its unique mandate. You will play your part in achieving UNHCR’s strategic ambitions and in contributing to the protection of people forced to flee.

Duties and responsibilities Accountability •

Strengthen the Strategic Communications Section’s role in providing brand support to colleagues across the globe via email, phone, Skype and WebEx.



Work with UNHCR teams worldwide to embed brand knowledge, confidence and consistency.



Contribute to the planning and development of UNHCR’s global brand strategy.



Create and maintain positive working relationships with stakeholders throughout the organization.

Responsibility •

Be a UNHCR brand champion.



Support the project management and evaluation of cross-organization integrated brand activity in line with UNHCR’s strategic objectives.



Deliver basic brand training globally via Skype and WebEx.



Support the Chief of Strategic Communications and the Brand Manager in embedding UNHCR’s brand in all communication activities.



Contribute to the development of long-term plans by identifying new opportunities and trends in not-for-profit brand practice.



Provide best practice advice on UNHCR’s brand to colleagues and appointed freelancers and agencies.

Access relevant information and reports that will inform brand decision-making.

Essential minimum educational level, qualifications and professional experience required •

Completion of secondary education with post-secondary certificate training in marketing/branding or other related fields.



Have at least five years of relevant paid professional experience.



Have at least two years professional experience of not-for-profit marketing, fundraising or brand.



Have a proven track record in managing brand, marketing or fundraising projects.



Have proven track record in managing multiple projects at the same time and delivering to tight deadlines.



Have excellent communication skills with strong aptitude for negotiation.



Be fluent in English, with advanced writing and editing skills.



Be highly organized and have good attention to detail.



Have problem-solving and decision-making skills with a mix of evidence-based decisions balanced with pragmatism, innovation, flexibility and common sense.



Have an understanding of how to develop brand, marketing or fundraising propositions, key messages and calls to action.



Ability to prioritize and to deliver high quality work with minimum supervision, to be able to multi-task under pressure and to bring people with you on key decisions.

Location The successful candidate will be based with the Strategic Communications team at UN City in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Conditions It is a full-time role with working hours from 8.30am to 5pm, Monday to Friday (40 hours per week, with a half-hour break for lunch).
