Terra Nova Nature School “Nurturing in Nature”
Imagine...
. . . a school where children listen to the wind, throw pebbles in the water, and grow vegetables and flowers. Imagine a place where children run along the pathways, watch birds land and take flight, find feathers, climb atop tree stumps, lie in grassy fields, and gaze at the clouds. The Terra Nova Nature School is this place!
The program operates out of the restored Edwardian Cottage in Terra Nova Rural Park, a 63 acre city-wide park in the Thompson area that features historic buildings, a community garden and a picnic area.
What is Nature School?
Throughout the seasons and no matter the weather, students of Terra Nova Nature School spend a significant amount of time outdoors. Children explore the natural landscape and its inhabitants for a learning experience that will always be dynamic, emergent and innovative! Facilitated by Early Childhood Educators, our play-based programs support learning in all areas of child development. The Terra Nova Nature School is inspired by the Forest Kindergartens of Europe and the schools of Reggio Emilia, Italy. Nature School Educators: Emily Vera & Kate Dawson

• Part-time Eagle spots are limited. • All classes are open to children 3 and 4 years of age. • The Owls classes may be combined. • Children must be 3 years of age by December 31, 2015. • Children must be toilet trained prior to entering the program. • The Owls program requires parent participation, with parents required to assist in the program during the afternoon once per month. Through the unique partnership of the Thompson Community Association, the Richmond Schoolyard Society and the City of Richmond, this is Richmond’s first ever non-profit Nature School.
Open House and Registration
Parent information night is on Wednesday, March 4 from 6–7:30 p.m. at Thompson Community Centre, 5151 Granville Avenue In-person registration at Thompson Community Centre starts on Thursday, March 12 from 6:00-7:30pm. After March 12, registration is ongoing based on availability.
