The$University$of$Edinburgh$ UNIVERSITY$OF$EDINBURGH$ Acoustics$and$Audio$Group$ (Reid$School$of$Music/Edinburgh$College$of$Art)$ Post%doctoral+Research+Associate+in+Microphone+Design+and+Testing+ A$PostKdoctoral$Research$Associate$is$sought$to$join$a$team$of$researchers$working$on$the$design,$ construction$and$testing$of$a$cochleaKinspired$microphone.$The$team$comprises$experts$in$microK electromechanical$system$(MEMS)$design$(based$in$the$School$of$Engineering),$working$alongside$ acousticians$with$experience$in$the$design$and$testing$of$acoustic$transducers$(based$in$the$ Acoustics$and$Audio$Group).$The$project$seeks$to$design$and$test$a$device$that$may$eventually$help$ to$improve$the$functionality$of$hearing$aids.$$ The$ideal$candidate$will$have$experience$in$acoustical$modelling,$preferably$at$a$low$level$and$based$ on$first$principles.$Experience$in$the$use$of$laser$doppler$vibrometry,$and$more$generally$in$ acoustical$testing$within$a$laboratory$setting,$is$highly$desirable.$$$$ The$project$is$funded$by$EPSRC,$and$is$full$time$and$fixed$term$for$a$period$of$24$months.$$ The$projected$start$date$is$1st$September$2015,$though$this$may$be$negotiable.$ A$companion$PDRA$appointment$is$to$be$made$in$the$MEMSKfabrication$area,$who$will$be$based$in$ the$Institute$for$Integrated$Micro$and$Nano$Systems$(part$of$the$School$of$Engineering).$The$two$ PDRAs$will$be$expected$to$work$together$as$part$of$the$project’s$overall$research$team$(6/7$ members$in$total).$ For$further$information,$please$contact$Dr$Michael$Newton$(Acoustics$and$Audio$Group):$
