WHAT is IoT → IoT Standard – 2G/3G/4G (IoT over Cellular Networks) ✓ Operation over longer distances can be provided by GSM/3G/4G cellular communication capabilities for any IoT application ✓ 4G seems to be the best solution for sending high quantities of data, however the cost and power consumption may be too high for many applications and devices ✓ But it can be ideal for development of the gateway for sensorbased low-bandwidth-data implementations that send low amounts of data over the Internet ✓ A key products in this area are tiny CELLv1.0 and a series of implementation boards for use with the Raspberry Pi and Arduino platforms ▪ Standard: GSM/GPRS/EDGE (2G), UMTS/HSPA (3G), LTE (4G) ▪ Frequencies: 900/1800/1900/2100 MHz ▪ Range: 35 km for GSM; 200 km for HSxPA ▪ Data Rates : 35-170 kps(GPRS), 120-384 kbps (EDGE), 384 Kbps-2 Mbps (UMTS), 600 kbps-10 Mbps (HSxPA), 130 Mbps (LTE)

WHAT is IoT → IoT Long Range Standard – LTE-M/eMTC (enhanced Machine Type Communications) / Narrowband (NB)-IoT

WHAT is IoT → IoT Long Range Standard – Sigfox ✓ Sigfox is located between WiFi and Cellular in terms of range ✓ It uses the ISM* bands with a very narrow spectrum ✓ The idea for Sigfox is that for many M2M applications that run on a small battery and only require low levels of data transfer, then WiFi’s range is too short while cellular is too expensive and also consumes too much power. ✓ Sigfox uses a technology called Ultra Narrow Band (UNB) and is only designed to handle low data-transfer speeds of 10 to 1000 bps. ✓ It is low-power enabled and consumes only 50 mW, thus it may provide typical sand-by time of 20 years with a 2.5 Ah battery ▪ Standard: Sigfox ▪ Frequency: 900 MHz ▪ Range: 30-50 km (rural), 3-10 km (urban environments) ▪ Data Rates: 10-1000 bps (1 Kbps) *ISM :Industrial Scientific and Medical band(433MHz, 868MHz, 902MHz)

WHAT is IoT → IoT Long Range Standard – LoRa ✓ LoRaWAN targets WAN applications and is designed to provide low-power WANs with features specifically needed to support low-cost mobile secure bi-directional communication in IoT, M2M and smart city and industrial applications ✓ It is optimized for low-power consumption and supporting large networks with many devices, data rates range from 0.3 kbps to 50 kbps. ▪ Standard: LoRaWAN ▪ Frequency: Various ▪ Range: 2-5km (urban), 15km (suburban environment) ▪ Data Rates: 0.3-50 kbps.
