COMMUNITY INVESTMENT PROGRAM PROJECT UPDATE

Important Announcements

Primrose Lane Reconstruction Project Project Scope: Rebuilding of Primrose Lane including sidewalks, curbs and drainage systems. Project Status: 1 Primrose Ln. is open in both directions! Contractor is completing the remaining items that need addressed before final acceptance by City inspectors; they are sealing joints and installing sod where needed. (pic 1) Dalrock Estates Reconstruction Project – Phase 1 Project Scope: Rebuilding of Dalrock Estates Phase l includes replacing Woodside Rd. and portions of Chesham Dr. and Highgate Ln. Storm drainage, water and sewer lines will be repaired or replaced; widen sidewalks, trees and decorative street lights will be installed.

Project Status: Quality Excavation completed sewer main on Woodside Rd. and are working on the last few sewer services. Roughly 700 linear feet of road was lime treated and mixed into the base. The sewer crew will be working on Chesham Dr. next week replacing sewer services. (pics 2 & 3) Highland Meadows Reconstruction Project – Phase 1 Project Scope: Rebuilding of the streets, sidewalks, curbs, drainage systems, street trees and lighting on Miami Dr., Vernon Dr. and Vagas Dr.

City Academy Class 3 starts! The third class of the Rowlett City Academy started February 1, 2018. 27 Rowlett residents signed up for the 12-week class that highlights the many different City departments. For the kick-off, City Manager Brian Funderburk spoke about the role and responsibilities of the City Manager. Mayor Tammy Dana-Bashian discussed the role of the Mayor and City Council. The evening was complete with Budget Officer Amanda Carter discussing tax rates and how the City Budget is developed. The next City Academy Class will start in August and will be held during the day.

CITY SECRETARY’S OFFICE UPDATE Get to know your Councilmembers! Councilmember Matt Grubisich – Did you know that Matt is the Director of Operations for Texas Trees Foundation? He also served eight years with the Texas Forest Service as the Regional Urban Forester for Dallas and surrounding areas. He is a Certified Arborist with the International Society of Arboriculture (ISA) and specializes in GIS mapping, technology transfer and eco-system analysis. Matt served in a leadership position on several boards and commissions including President of the Trinity Blacklands Urban Forestry Council, Chair of the Dallas Chapter of the Society of American Foresters, founding member of the Dallas Urban Forestry Advisory Committee, three terms on our Parks and Recreation Board and served on the Board of Directors for ISA Texas.

REMINDER! Last day to register to vote for the March 6, 2018 Primary Election is Monday, February 5, 2018. The registration process is simple: pick up a voter registration card at City Hall, complete and mail in or fill out a voter registration card application online. Simply fill out the form, print, sign and mail in your application.

ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT UPDATE The Rowlett Real Estate Market is performing well with the Dallas-Fort Worth Market still growing. City staff attended the monthly Rowlett MLS meeting and the following information was provided by Coldwell Banker Apex Realtors: Rowlett Monthly Market Update for January: • December 2017 Active Inventory up 18% from December 2016 • December 2017 Median Listing Price: $329,900 • December 2017 Median Sale Price: $265,000 (Almost $20K Increase from $246,500 in December 2016)

The Rowlett Citizen Corps Council (RCCC) will sponsor its two-day Community Emergency Response Team (CERT) class on Saturday, February 3rd and 10th, 8am-5pm.

Safe Room Rebate Program The City of Rowlett is happy to announce that FEMA has awarded our community with a $465,000 grant for its own residential safe room rebate program. At least 150 safe room rebates of up to $3,000 will be available. The start of the application period is expected to occur within the next two to three months. In the meantime, the Rowlett Office of Emergency Management (Rowlett OEM) is seeking to create an email notification list to help announce the start of the application period. Please review the flyer if you are interested in being placed on the notification list. Keep in mind that you must be approved to participate and receive a notice to proceed before a safe room purchase and installation is eligible for a rebate. If you have any questions or are interested in being placed on the notification list, please contact Rowlett OEM at [email protected].

LIBRARY UPDATE The Rowlett Public Library will be closed Friday, February 9 for a staff development day. No Library materials will be due that day, however, the Library book return will be open.

PARKS & RECREATION UPDATE Volunteers Needed Tomorrow! Let's Build Scentral Bark! Roll up your sleeves and get your paws dirty this Saturday during the first day of the ultimate community DIY project! Volunteer with your community, friends, and family to build Rowlett’s first dog park – Scentral Bark!

We’re excited that Rowlett Pickleball was represented at the TAAF’s Annual Winter Games on January 12 and 13 in Pearland, Texas! Susan Henderson took gold in the Singles Division and gold in the Doubles Division – Congratulations! Parks and Recreation staff volunteered at the Winter Games swim meet to help make the entire weekend a success!

Our golf cart is ready to go – rain or shine! We are very excited for our new cover so Dale, our driver, can be available with whatever mother nature has to offer. We believe our patrons will be very excited for the new addition.

The annual Little Sweetheart Dance we held on Saturday, January 27th, with a Winter Wonderland theme. There were 256 people in attendance which is one of the highest attended dances! DJ Josh kept the night going with awesome music and games as well as fun goody bags to take home which included numerous items from local businesses. We are counting down the days to next year’s dance.

PUBLIC WORKS UPDATE Annual Concrete Repair and Maintenance of Streets and Alleys Cam-Crete Contracting, Inc. poured the concrete panels in the right lane between Big A Rd. and Beech St. Once the concrete has cured, traffic will be shifted and work will begin on the center lane of these streets.

Annual Contract for Concrete Sidewalk, Curb, and Gutters F and F Concrete Inc. continues to work on street, curb & gutter, sidewalk improvement repairs on Main St. Crews switched the traffic to the north side of Main St. The contractor is currently sawcutting and removing street panels and brick pavers; prepping the subgrade for density lab testing. **Work will occur between 9am and 5pm; however, two-way travel will remain possible with detours in the downtown area.** Main Street Improvements City staff is asking those who visit downtown businesses and utilize the angled parking spaces along Main St. during this phase of the project to back into those spaces (see graphic below). There is additional parking along Coyle St. and in the parking lot on Commerce St. behind Bankhead Brewery. Thank you for your assistance as we continue to make improvements to Main Street!

Traffic Signal at Liberty Grove Road and Chiesa Road Durable Specialties completed installation of the underground conduits and placement of the pull boxes. Dirt work and framing are being done for the new Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramps. The signal control cabinet placement wiring should begin next week.

College Park Lift Station Crews are in the process of replacing the worn fence at College Park Lift Station.
