Certificate IV in Bookkeeping FNS40215 This qualification is designed to reflect the job roles of contract bookkeepers and employees performing bookkeeping tasks for organisations in a range of industries. It includes the preparation and lodgement of business and instalment activity statement tasks and the provision of advice or dealing with the Commissioner on behalf of a taxpayer in relation to the activity statements. Individuals in these roles apply theoretical and specialist knowledge and skills to work autonomously and exercise judgement in completing routine and non-routine activities. Licensing/Regulatory Information Work functions in the occupational areas where this qualification may be used are subject to regulatory requirements. Refer to the FNS Implementation Guide Companion Volume or the relevant regulator for specific guidance on requirements. Persons providing a business activity statement (BAS) service must be registered by the Tax Practitioners Board and this qualification is currently cited as meeting the educational requirements for registration. Other conditions apply. A BAS service is a tax agent service that includes, but is not limited to, the following: • Preparing or lodging an approved form about a taxpayer’s liabilities, obligations or entitlements under a BAS provision; • Giving a taxpayer advice about a BAS provision that the taxpayer can reasonably be expected to rely upon to satisfy their taxation obligations; or • Dealing with the Commissioner on behalf of a taxpayer in relation to a BAS provision.

Becoming a Qualified BAS agent The Certificate IV in Bookkeeping has been cited as meeting the Tax Practitioners Board (TPB) current minimum educational requirements for registration as a BAS agent. Individuals should consult the TPB as additional eligibility criteria may apply. The core units of this course include the 2 units which form an approved course in basic GST/BAS taxation principles (GST/BAS course): FNSBKG404 Carry out business activity and instalment activity statement tasks FNSBKG405 Establish and maintain a payroll system.

Recognition Recognition of Prior Learning Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) is an assessment process of identifying your knowledge and skills against a qualification or a unit of competence. Each student will be provided an explanation of the RPL process and opportunity to request RPL during consultation with your trainer. Duration You have 12 months to complete the course. Recommended study hours per week: 5 We may grant a 3 month extension however an additional 25% of the course fee will apply.
