EditShare - 2017 Emmy® Award Winner EditShare is thrilled to announce it has won a 2017 Emmy® Award for Technology and Engineering from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS). The award recognizes EditShare’s technology contributions in the pioneering development of multicamera post-production workflows that were developed by the Lightworks team. “Lightworks multi-camera technology completely changed how things were done in Hollywood, in Soho and beyond. It’s an innovation that laid the foundation for nearly every professional editing application to follow,” comments James Richings, managing director, EditShare. “Pioneering new technologies and workflows is at the heart of what we do, from developing the first Avid and Final Cut Pro project sharing in EditShare Shared Storage, to making automated QC available across the entire workflow with Quales QC.” Richings adds, “We accept this Emmy® with great pride and joy, and we want to extend a special congratulations to the Lightworks developers who continue to innovate across our Flow Media Asset Management platform today. We also want to extend our sincere gratitude to our customers who provide us with the inspiration and support to push boundaries and deliver the very best tools that
enable them to bring their creative visions to life.”
The same technology that went into Lightworks over the years is now at the heart of Flow Story, an application aimed at fast-turnaround environments such as News and Sports. Flow Story provides journalists and production teams with the ability to edit using a mix of local content as well as streaming proxy files coming from remote Flow locations, and then to package stories for delivery or playout.
EditShare will receive its Emmy® Award on Sunday,
April 8th, 2018 at the annual National Association of Broadcasters Show (NAB) in Las Vegas, NV.

EFS Intelligent scale-out distributed file system The EditShare File System is uniquely tailored for the post-production environment. EFS presents one namespace that eliminates management of multiple storage volumes. Adding capacity is seamless, simply connect another Ethernet-base storage node; production continues as before while the EFS automatically rebalances the distribution of data. An EFS system can be a single storage node or configured as an enterprise cluster with a mix of technology including SSDs for high data rate content and SATA HDDs for costefficient, performance storage. Administrators can choose from a variety of file protection mechanisms to match content value and storage cost, and in an enterprise environment it’s easy to allocate dedicated storage resources and file protection to individual departments or workgroups. The EFS architecture enables outstanding performance by eliminating sources of delay and latency. The combination of dedicated metadata servers, optimized metadata structure and managed transactional intensity means that every frame of every file is delivered on time, every time. Plus EFS replaces legacy protocols with a low latency, high performance Native Client connection that significantly increases bandwidth and enables bonded client connections.

Enterprise-grade storage for the world’s largest post-production environments. XStream EFS 450 is designed to meet demanding bandwidth, storage capacity, faulttolerance and management requirements of large-scale workgroups and media operations. A 3-node, 96TB entry-level cluster provides over 2.3GB/s of bandwidth and its native XOR protection will tolerate the loss of an entire storage node. Bandwidth and capacity are expanded linearly by simply plugging in additional storage nodes to reach over 5PB of capacity. While being expanded, an EFS 450 can continue to support production while background processes distribute data to newly-added nodes. Thanks to its RAM-based EFS Metadata servers, the EFS 450 insures that Reads and Writes are processed quickly. Our unique SwiftRead feature manages resource contention that arises in shared storage environments to prevent dropped frames on ingest and playout operations. Lastly, two or more metadata servers can be paired to create a true highavailability environment. 3 node EFS, 4TB drives, Native Client

Ideal enterprise storage solution for high-end media production XStream EFS 300 delivers the performance and capacity required for today’s largest post production environments. Beginning with a 16 drive configuration providing generous bandwidth, the XStream EFS 300 platform can scale from a single 32TB master node that includes Flow asset management and ARK archive workflow tools, to a fully expanded 5PB, resilient Enterprise cluster. Expansion to a multi-node cluster provides further performance benefits by enabling parallel transactions between workstations and storage nodes to avoid the typical contention “hot spots”, while always presenting a single namespace to simplify system administration. Also, depending on the number of nodes present, an EFS 300 can support XOR and COPY protection schemes that can tolerate the loss of one or more storage node for added resilience.

Cost optimised parking and nearline storage for EFS environments The 40NL is a storage node that’s intended for “parking” media that still needs to be accessible almost instantly, but which doesn’t need the extreme speed called for in the middle of an online production workflow. It’s the ideal product to save material you know you’re going to need soon - but not right now. It costs significantly less than productionspeed storage and yet it still has all the robustness and reliability of EFS. One or more EFS 40NL “parking” nodes can be added to an existing EFS shared storage cluster for unused media assets that would otherwise take up valuable online storage. It’s easy to use, because XStream EFS 40NL uses the same namespace as EFS Production Storage, which means there are no complicated procedures or routines to move content between systems. You don’t even need to import or export. It’s all just there - in the same virtual place. To safeguard against failure of production storage, EFS 40NL nodes can be combined with an EFS Metadata server (multiple for high-availability) to function as a low-cost, fullyindependent failover cluster. With the addition of the metadata server, each storage cluster will support a single namespace that will remain unaffected should a disaster destroy the other. Replicating content is easy with the EditShare Sync Tool. XStream EFS 40NL is going to change the way creative people think about nearline storage. It’s a new way to simplify your production lifestyle.

Asset security is the big topic in digital media asset storage Ever since the production cost of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s ‘True Lies’ broke the US$100M ceiling in 1994, movie budgets have continued to spiral upwards. A similar growth trend is also evident in television production, largely stimulated by the emergence of the Internet as a delivery medium. Across entertainment sectors, it’s clear that digital assets are big business and protecting assets is an ever greater concern. EditShare has been working behind the scenes to meet this need. Our forthcoming Storage Auditing solution offers comprehensive monitoring and reporting and provides System Administrators with an eagle’s perspective over all storage activity, from an overview of drive space utilization and system performance, down to fine-grain real time analysis of every user’s actions in each EFS storage pool – including Media Space access, file creation, deletion, reads, moves and modifications. Not a single action or operation can take place without leaving a highly detailed audit trail. This auditing data can be exported easily to third parties - including other auditing applications. EditShare Storage Auditing is the answer to the emerging need for extreme accountability by facilities responsible for high value content.
