DOWN THROUGH THE YEARS High School Hockey, North Shore College The North Shore Hockey League was born in the minds of a handful of hockey pioneers and nurtured on the ponds and patches of stable water from Gloucester to Saugus. Before coming to the Sports Center for the 1949-50 season, the league had centered its activity on Getchell's Pit in Marblehead. Then, when the four walls of the Sports Center went up (the roof came later), the league moved "indoors." Here are some of the competitive highlights down through the 21 formal seasons of schoolboy hockey in the league: 1949-50: Gloucester and Classical played 2Vz hours on Friday, Feb. 24, for the league title . . . sudden-death play was then continued on Sunday, Feb. 25 ... Farrell Roberts won it lor Gloucester, 2-1, with a screenedshot at 0:39 of the five-minute period. The North Shore League record for "quickie" goals is held, team-wise by Swampscott, which scored jour limes in 47 seconds on Feb. 14, 19f>9, while beating Bererly d-0. 1950-51: Classical gained revenge with a 1-0 win over Gloucester after two overtime periods and sudden-death play to capture the title. 1951-52: Classical again beats Gloucester in the showdown, 1-0 . . . Peabody was 11-00 in regular-season play. 1952-53: Gloucester 2, Classical 1 in playoff as the feud continues. 1953-54: Classical 10-0-1, but Danvers beats Swampscott in playoff final. 1954-55: English regime begins. Tippy Johnson leads scoring as sophomore with 2314-37 and English is 11-0-0 . . . English 2, Swampscott 1 in playoff final. Lynn English scored two in eight seconds in 7956 while beating Bereriy 9-0 ... Tippy Johnson at 0:22 of the first period and Ernie Carpenter at 0:30. 1955-56: English 14-0-0 . . . Johnson 3225-57 . . . English 4, Woburn 3 in overtime playoff final . . . English wins state championship. 1956-57: English 12-1-1 as Winchester snays streak at 37 straight (3-2) and Peabody ties Bulldogs 2-2 . . . English becomes first team ever to win State titles back to back. 1957-58: Swampscott (10-1-3) league champ . . . Woburn (7-0-7) third behind Amesbury (10-2-2) . . . Woburn's seven ties a league record . . . Woburn 2, Amesbury 1 in playoff final. On Feb. 14, 1955, English scored three in 33 seconds while beating Salem 7 7-0 ... Spinney at 1:22, Carpenter 7:45, Johnson 7 : 5 5 of the middle period.

Once again the All Pro Hockey School will be directed by Harold "Red" Foote of Lynn English. Coach Foote will be assisted by Coaches George Kinnaly and Jerry Ryan of Beverly. By the time the All Pro School opens next summer, it will have the largest teaching faculty of any hockey school in the area. The School will be divided into three two week sessions for youngsters between the ages of 8 to 17. Each youngster must attend for at least two weeks and can skate all six weeks If he desires. Tuition for the school is $95.00 per two week period — the least expensive of any school of Hs type in the country. !..••..••._»»«•.««»««».«»»••»••••»•»________________-—_——
