REGLAS PARA LA ESCRITURA DEL PASADO SIMPLE Y PARTICIPIO DE PASADO DE LOS VERBOS REGULARES. El pasado simple y el participio de pasado de los verbos regulares se forma añadiendo ‘-ed’ ( o ‘-d’, en el caso de verbos acabados en -e) a la forma de infinitivo.

1. En palabras con una vocal corta y que terminan en consonante simple, la consonante se duplica,

e.g. stopped, planned. 2. En palabras que acaban en consonante + y, la -y cambia a -i, e.g. carried, hurried. 3. La -l se duplica en inglés británico (pero no en inglés americano), e.g. travelled. REGLAS PARA LA PRONUNCACIÓN DEL PASADO SIMPLE Y PARTICIPIO DE PASADO DE LOS VERBOS RECULARES. b

El sufijo -ed varía en su pronunciación de acuerdo con las reglas que a continuación se indican: 1. -ed se pronuncia /ɪd/ después de /t/ y /d/, e.g. wanted, mended.

2. -ed se pronuncia /d/ después de sonidos sonoros menos ‘d’: vocales y /m, n, ŋ, ʤ, ʒ, g.../, e. g. rained, covered, seemed.

2. -ed se pronuncia /t/ después de sonidos sordos menos ‘t’: /k, p, s, f, ʃ, ʧ, θ.../, e.g. Iooked, helped, crossed.
