Highlights on Library Services in School Year 2005-2006 The school year 2005-2006 proved to be another challenging and fruitful year for the library faculty and staff. They were able to plan and accomplish relevant programs and activities, streamline policies, develop collections, hone their skills, and continuously upgrade and improve their various services. Collection Development With its budget allocation for capital expenditure of P31.6M (LibraryP26.2M; IMS - P5.18M and EDRCP0.161M), the library was able to purchase much needed books and multi-media equipment, continue to maintain the Millennium system and subscribe to on-line journals. There were 5427volumes (4819titles) of books, 430 titles of print journals, 911 volumes of AV materials, and 126 units of assorted media equipment purchased. With the continued application of the Millennium, the full implementation of the inventory module was made

Library CAP Receive Awards We congratulate the following library Co-Academic Personnel for the various service awards they received during the annual awarding ceremony held on May 13 at the DLSU William Shaw Theatre. Leading the awardees was Edwin Rosete, a technician assigned at the Instructional Media Services (IMS) for the past 25 years. The awardees for 15 Years of service were Noel G. Aquino, a depository clerk, Avelino Dancalan, a System Information assistant, and Jose Perdigon, an IMS technician. The lone awardee for 10 Years Service was Wilfredo Frias, an assistant librarian at the Information-Reference Section. Our congratulations go also to the recipients of the Perfect Attendance Awards. Purisima Fernando, the assistant librarian at the Cataloging Section, has been receiving the award for 14 consecutive years. Ulysis Balatbat, a clerk at the Periodicals Section received the award for the 7th time. Receiving the award for the 5th time was Jose Perdigon of IMS while Rosalinda del Rosario from the Archives and Josephine Maghari from Filipiniana received theirs for the 4th time. Receiving the award for the 3rd time were Joel Cariño of IMS, Wilfredo Frias, and Yugosto Balbas and Gerald Nicodemus both from Circulation Section. Ramon Villanueva of the Archives received his award for the second time. The following were first time recipients of the award; Renato

Immersion Visit of CHMSC Librarians By Elizabeth Padilla. The Carlos Hilado Memorial State College (CHMSC) librarians namely Misses Cynthia Malefecio, Ruvy Tubles, Ma. Lorela Cayao and Mr. Raymund Cayao spent a 3-day immersion visit at De La Salle University Library from May 22-24, 2006 in anticipation for the digitalization project of the college. They also took pictures of shelves, magazine display rack and other pieces of furniture as bench marks for their libraries. On the third day the librarians finalized their lists and reports and further observed the automated acquisition and cataloging process and media booking modules. The wrap-up session was made in the afternoon. The participants were able to present their individual work output which includes the results of their search results, lists of websites for free access to e-books or full articles, a sample of a pathfinder or a webliography on a chosen subject or topic. Because of the limited time the final report on the action plans to be initiated in their library was sent via email to P. Garcia. The final session was completed by the distribution of certificates and a photo session.

Jocelyn Ladlad was the elected President of the Association of Special Libraries of the Philippines (ASLP). Yolanda Odsinada, the Head of the Readers Services was the representative to the CEAP Library Network. Likewise, the librarians shared their time and expertise with colleagues and students in and out of campus as lecturers. Ms. Perla Garcia talked on the “Quality Assurance@ DLSU Library” with the librarians of AUNILO members universities at Penang, Malaysia on Nov. 30, 2006. She also lectured on “Digital Libraries: a Face Lift or Phase Leap to Better Service at the Carlos Hilado College, Bacolod City, April 21, 2006 and on “Innovative Services and Future Challenges for Libraries at La Trinidad, Benguet, May 17, 2006. Island Cove, Cavite on October 18, 2005. Cresencia B. Valenzuela had been actively involved in training the DLSU faculty members in the use of PowerPoint in instruction, one of the modules at Center for Educational Multi-Media (CREM). She also handled the “Harry Power: a Seminar on PowerPoint” and “Advance PowerPoint” for the DLSU students held at the Yuchengco Bldg. on June 22, 2005 and at the E-classroom on Feb 22 respectively. She was a part-time lecturer for the EDP 713 (Production of PowerPoint Presentation) class at the DLSU- College of Education. Jocelyn Ladlad delivered a lecture on “Ethical Issues in ICT” for the ASLP at the Hotel Kimberly in Manila on April 28, 2006. Fe Angela Verzosa, on the other hand, talked on “Library Linkages/ Networking” at UST Library on August 26. Studies/Reports For this year, the librarians were able to make a study on the strengths and weaknesses of the book collection,

prepared the inventory report, and streamlined collection policies. Collection Development Policies for European Documentation and Research Centre (EDRC), American Studies Resource Center (ASRC), Periodical Section, and College of Science were prepared. The library book collections were assessed using the check listing method against the BBAL Science, Technology, Agriculture (vol. 1), Medicine (vol. 2), History & world history (vol. 5), Philosophy, and Religion (vol. 8). Documents and exhibits for COE PAASCU re-survey were prepared. Statistics on the Different Services The following tables present the statistical data of the library’s various day to day services like acquisition and cataloguing, lending of materials and equipment, use of OPAC and on-line subscriptions, use of various facilities like Cybernook and E-classrooms, use of book chutes, the number of visitors the library accommodated, and others.
