MY NAME IS KHAN „Ich heiße Khan und ich bin kein Terrorist.“ Es ist nicht überliefert, ob der Bollywood-Superstar Shah Rukh Khan im August 2009 mit diesen Worten die Beamten auf dem Flughafen von Newark, New Jersey, von seiner Unschuld überzeugen wollte, nachdem sie ihn – offenkundig allein wegen seines muslimischen Namens – festgenommen hatten und zwei Stunden lang befragten, ehe die indische Botschaft den Irrtum aufklären und seine Freilassung erreichen konnte. „Ich heiße Khan und ich bin kein Terrorist.“ Zu diesem Statement ist jedenfalls der von Shah Rukh Khan verkörperte Protagonist dieses Films gezwungen. Rizvan Khan ist ein ehrenwerter, aus Indien stammender Muslim, der am Asperger-Syndrom, einer milden Form von Autismus, leidet. Der durch und durch seriöse Mann, der inzwischen bei Verwandten in Amerika lebt, hat sich bedingungslos verliebt – in Mandira, eine junge schöne alleinerziehende Mutter, die auf ganz persönliche Weise den globalen Traum von Er folg leben will. Die beiden heiraten – dann aber wird die Familie durch die Anschläge vom 11. September 2001 getrennt. Um sie wieder zu vereinen, muss sich Rizvan Khan auf eine Reise quer durch die USA begeben, durch ein Land, das noch schwer unter dem 9/11-Trauma leidet. Vor diesem Hintergrund erzählt der Autor und Regisseur Karan Johar eine ebenso ergreifende wie dramatische Liebesgeschichte, von Begegnungen zwischen westlicher Welt und islamischer Kultur. Sein folgender Film KABHI KUSHI KABHIE GHAM wurde weltweit ein Kinoerfolg. MY NAME IS KHAN ist bereits sein vierter Film mit Shah Rukh Khan. Rizvan Khan is a respectable Muslim from India who is suffering from Asperger syndrome, a mild form of autism. This thoroughly honest man, who now lives with relatives in America, has fallen head over heels in love in Mandira, a beautiful young single mother who is determined to live her own version of the universal dream of success. The two marry, but then, the family is separated by the attacks of September 11, 2001. In order to reunite the family, Rizvan Khan must set out on a journey all the way across the USA, a country that is still deeply traumatised by 9/11. This is the backdrop for writer-director Karan Johar’s moving, dramatic love story that also tells of encounters between the West and Islamic culture. Rizvan Khan est un honorable musulman originaire de l’Inde qui souffre du syndrome d’Asperger, une forme bénigne d’autisme. Cet homme éminemment sérieux qui vit entre-temps chez des parents en Amérique est tombé éperdument amoureux de Mandira, une jeune et jolie mère célibataire qui veut vivre de façon très personnelle le rêve universel de la réussite. Ils se marient – mais la famille se retrouve ensuite séparée par les attentats du 11 Septembre 2001. Afin d’être à nouveau ensemble, Rizvan Khan doit entreprendre un voyage à travers tous les Etats-Unis, un pays qui souffre encore durement de ce traumatisme. C’est sur cette toile de fond que l’auteur et réalisateur Karan Johar raconte une histoire d’amour aussi poignante que dramatique et des rencontres entre le monde occidental et la culture islamique.
