Short biographies MARTINA GMÜR

Head of Export Promotion, Debuty CEO Martina Gmür is Head of Export Promotion at Switzerland Global Enterprise (S-GE) and debuty CEO. She joined S-GE in 2016 and holds a licentiate in Economic Sciences of the University of St. Gallen (HSG).

MASASHI NAKAZONO

Director General, JETRO Genève Masashi Nakazono works as the Director General of JETRO Genève. His main mission is to promote the economic relationship between Switzerland and Japan. Before assuming his current position, he has worked for the Ministry of Economy Trade and Industry (METI) for more than 20 years. During his service at METI, he has been engaged in various policy makings including innovation, intellectual property and WTO related issues. From 2010 to 2013, he was also posted in Palo Alto, California, to monitor the latest innovation trend in Silicon Valley. Masashi Nakazono holds a BEng from the University of Tokyo and an MSc from Imperial College London.

ERIC JAKOB

Ambassador and Head of the Promotion Activities Directorate, SECO (State Secretariat for Economic Affairs) Ambassador Eric Jakob, Dr. phil., Head of the Promotion Activities Directorate and Member of the Executive Board of the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO since 2012. Responsible for SME, Regional and Tourism Policy as well as for Export and Location Promotion. Previously General Manager of Regio Basiliensis and the Intercantonal Coordination Office at Regio Basiliensis in Basel. 1995 to 2003 Assistant General Manager of this organisation. From 1993 to 1995 Swiss Adviser to Infobest Palmrain, an information and advisory body for cross-border matters in Village-Neuf (France). Prior to that Senior Project Leader within the framework of the PTT Initiative at that time «Communication and Model Community Basel», also worked as a journalist.

RIEKO NAKAYAMA

Rieko Nakayama Executive Director, Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO), Paris Rieko Nakayama was appointed Executive Director of Paris Office, Japan National Tourism Organization (JNTO) in 2016, where she has been in charge of the promotion of the inbound tourism to Japan from France, Switzerland, Belgium and other francophone countries. Before assuming the current position, she has developed her carrier at the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism of Japan. She worked in the various transportation departments in the Ministry including air and maritime transportation and railway and also, was engaged in international affairs. She received her LL.B. from the University of Tokyo and her MBA from the University of Michigan, USA.

THOMAS SEILER

CEO, u-blox Thomas Seiler has served as a member of the Board of Directors and as CEO since the incorporation of u-blox Holding AG in 2007. He serves as CEO and Head of Marketing and Sales of u-blox AG since 2002. In 2006 he was appointed member of the Board of Directors of u-blox AG. Thomas Seiler holds a degree in mechanical engineering from the Swiss Federal Institute of Tech­nology Zurich (ETH) and a MBA diploma from INSEAD, France. In 1987 he was appointed member of the executive committee of Melcher Holding AG, Switzerland and CEO from 1991 to 1998. Thereafter, he served as CEO of Kistler Holding AG, Switzerland from 1999 to 2001. Thomas Seiler is a member of the Board of Artum AG, Switzerland.

SELIM GROBÉTY

Vice President Business Development, Plumettaz SA Selim Grobéty holds a Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the University of Applied Sciences in Switzerland and an Advanced Federal Diploma of Higher Education in Business Administration. Acting in International Industrial Sales environment since 18 years, he joined Plumettaz Group, a leading manufacturer of cable laying equipment, in year 2009 as Vice President Sales “OEM” Products. In 2017, he was nominated Vice President Business Development in the same Company.

HIRONOBU TASHIRO

First Secretary, Embassy of Japan in Switzerland Hironobu Tashiro works as First Secretary of the Embassy of JAPAN in Bern. His main mission is to promote the economic relationship between Japan and Switzerland. He has worked for the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) about 20 years. He joined Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications in 1996. Risk Management Officer for Postal Savings (1996 – 2001). Chief of the Diet Affairs (2002). Chief of Information Communication Technology (ICT) Policy (2003 – 2005). Second Secretary, Economic Section, Embassy of JAPAN in Pakistan (2006 – 2009). General Manager and Vice Director of ICT Budget (2009 – 2015).

PATRICK ZILTENER

Prof. Dr. University of Zurich Patrick Ziltener is an Associate Professor at the University of Zurich and Director of a research project sponsored by the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). He has analyzed multi- and bilateral Free Trade Agreements (FTA) for more than 15 years, in cooperation with Switzerland Global Enterprise, Chambers of Commerce and other trade-related organizations. From 2006 to 2009 he was State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) Senior Advisor for Economic Relations with East Asia and Secretary of the Free Trade and Economic Partnership Agreement (FTEPA) Switzerland-Japan negotiations.

Head Strategic Internationalisation, M-Industry Noel Matos, Migros-Genossenschafts-Bund (MGB) has over 25 years of international FMCG experience. He started at MGB over 9 years ago to head M-Industry’s Strategic Export/Marketing Division, the industrial backbone of Migros abroad. The activities have made M-Industry one of the most trusted partners for international retailers across the globe. In his term, Noel Matos has established international sales and marketing platforms on behalf of M-Industry in the USA, Canada, Central Europe, Japan and China. M-Industry have proven pioneers in diversified business strategies throughout the years in over 16 categories. Noel Matos graduated from Cornell University in the USA and has an MBA from the University of Bern/ Simon Business School.

ANDREAS RENFER

Sales Director, Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems AG Andreas Renfer was born and raised in Switzerland where he got his basic education and degree in electronics from the KSMB state college for microtechnology Biel/Bienne in 1993. While continuing his studies in the US, he came in contact with Japanese culture for the first time and decided to move to Japan in 1995. After working for the distributor of a Swiss Medical equipment manu­ facturer as a liaison engineer, Andreas decided to peruse his two year full time MBA at the International University of Japan. Before returning to Switzerland after more than 20 years in Japan, Andreas lead the sales department of the German laboratory equipment manufacturer IKA in Osaka. In February 2017 he joined Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems AG as a Sales Director for Japan and the Middle East.

MARTIN HERB

President, SJCC (Swiss-Japanese Chamber of Commerce) Martin Herb serves as president of the Swiss-Japanese Chamber of Commerce since 2015. He is an attorney at law at Herb Takata Attorneys in Zurich and advises and represents companies and individuals in a wide range of cases such as commercial, corporate, contract and administrative law and the establishment of foreign companies. He has experience in banking and the airline industry. He grew up in St. Gallen and graduated from the University of Geneva.
