Googles New Keyword Planner Googles New Keyword Planner tool is a great way to research keywords and come up with new ideas for your website content. While you can use it for both Adwords and SEO, you need an Adwords account in order to access the tool. How else can you come up with keyword ideas? I start with Googling: [keyword] dictionary [keyword] glossary [keyword] thesaurus I’ll also research Wikipedia and Amazon. Now that you’ve got about 15 seed words, let’s go examine the Keyword Planner tool. The new Keyword Planner Is a combination of the keyword tool and traffic estimator.  It initially gives you a choice of four paths:

1. Search For New Keyword and Ad Group Ideas

Using this interface, the Keyword Planner lets you brainstorm keywords using any or all of the following three methods: • By Keyword:  you can type in a word or phrase relevant to your business

• By Landing Page: by entering a landing page on your site (or any competitor’s webpages, for that matter), the Keyword Planner will scan and infer keywords that are relevant to those pages • By Product Category: you can select from one of thousands of pre-defined keyword categories You can additionally filter your ideas by targeting; location (an option not available with the old tool), language, Google with or without Search Partners, and Negative Keywords. You can customize your search by search volume (includes desktop, tablet, and mobile), bid amount, impression share, competition level, ideas closely related, and specifically include or exclude specific terms. Click the chart symbol and focus on keywords with stable or growing search trends. If adding these to your Adwords plan, click the pencil icon and set the match type. Most people will say that you want to target keywords with between 500 - 3,000 searches per month. The problem is that the more searches per month, the more likely there will be lots of competition for the keyword and possibilities of you ranking for it will become less and less. NOTE: This part of the tool only supports 50 items in the search field.

2. Search For New Keyword And Ad Group Ideas The "Get search volume for a list of keywords" option does NOT show other keyword ideas.

This part of the tool enables you to control the match type (a Pay Per Click thing). You can also upload a file of keywords. Additionally you can target the search by region, Google only or with search partners, and with negative keywords. The output from this is almost exactly like option one.

3. Get Traffic Estimates For A List Of Keywords This part of the tool is all about click and cost estimates.

This part of the tool enables you to control the match type (a Pay Per Click thing). You can also upload a file of keywords. Additionally you can target the search by region, Google only or with search partners, and with negative keywords.

4. Multiply Keyword Lists To Get New Keyword Ideas

Enter two lists of words and viola! a consolidated list of words with combinations of everything you entered. This part of the tool enables you to control the match type (a Pay Per Click thing). You can also upload a file of keywords. Additionally you can target the search by region, Google only or with search partners, and with negative keywords. Why would you want to do this? It is a well known fact that most buyers narrow their searches 5 to 7 times before buying. Where do you want to be in the process? You want to be at the very end. You want to catch the buyers at the last stop where they have done their research and are now just looking for the right time and place to shop. Multiply your list of researched keywords with targeting phrases such as: how to why where to instructions for guide to book to manual to

You can also use target phrases based on gender (him, her, mother, father...), age (seniors, teens, children...), reviews, comparisons, seasons, buying (buy, coupon, order...), solutions (cure, stop, get rid of...), and information (tips, hints, learn...). You can click the “X” at the far right to get a third box in which to enter multipliers. Wrap Up People are looking for information. They have problems that they want to solve, opportunities that they want to pursue, and leisure activities that they want to enjoy.  The secret to getting your web pages visited by users is to integrate keywords that have sufficient traffic, but not too much competition.  Which is easier, to convince someone that they should make a purchase, or simply get in front of those that are going to buy anyway, and give them a good reason to buy?
