Step-by-Step Application Process Guide Make the Commitment The apprenticeship program is a wonderful career opportunity, but it is also a challenge. As an apprentice you will be expected to demonstrate your ability to continuously learn and master new and unfamiliar machines, processes, and equipment. You will devote a minimum of four hours each week to college level classroom education and can expect to spend many more hours on homework. You will be measured and tested throughout your four or five years by supervisors; classroom instructors; the journeyworkers who train you; the apprenticeship committee; and your co-workers and fellow apprentices. Because an apprenticeship requires this high level of commitment, the committee has established specific minimum requirements that you must meet before your application will be accepted. Depending upon your previous work experience and education it can take several weeks or several months to complete them. These requirements will prepare you to meet the challenges you will face and will help you be successful on the job and in the classroom. If you think you have what it takes to be an apprentice, continue on to Step 2.

Are you Eligible? There are some basic minimum eligibility requirements that you must meet. Applicants must: 1. be at least 18 years of age. 2. never have been enrolled in or completed an apprenticeship at Boeing. 3. be considered eligible for hire or rehire at The Boeing Company at the time of application. 4. have a GED or a high school diploma. 5. have US person status as defined by Boeing. 6. meet specific defined vocational training and/or trade related work experience requirements for the apprenticeship program being applied for. 7. be able to perform the physical requirements of the apprenticeship. For the Industrial Electronic Maintenance Technician Program applicants must be able to distinguish between primary colors. If you meet these basic minimum eligibility requirements and are prepared to complete specific defined vocational training and/or minimum work experience requirements, continue on to Step 3.

Obtain a Preparing for an Apprenticeship Packet Eligible candidates may print a "Preparing for an Apprenticeship" Packet - or PrepPack from the web at http://www.iam-boeing-apprenticeship.com. This packet contains all of the details you will need to help you select an apprenticeship trade, understand the requirements, and get ready to apply. After you obtain your PrepPack, continue on to Step 4.

Select a Trade Before you can start working on the minimum vocational training and/or minimum work experience requirements, you should decide which trade you want to pursue. Remember, you may only apply for one. There are ten active apprenticeship trades to choose from; each is defined in the PrepPack. They are: Blue Streak Mechanic (4-year, 8,000 hour trade) Cellular Manufacturing Machinist (4-year, 8,000 hour trade) Composite Manufacturing Specialist (4-year, 8,000 hour trade) Industrial Electronic Maintenance Technician (5-year, 10,000 hour trade) Machine Tool Maintenance Mechanic (4-year, 8,000 hour trade) Maintenance Machinist (4-year, 8,000 hour trade) Metal Structure Robotics Technician (4-year, 8,000 hour trade) Model Maker (4-year, 8,000 hour trade) 1

NC Spar Mill Operator (4-year, 8,000 hour trade) Tool & Cutter Grinder (4-year, 8,000 hour trade) It is often helpful to talk to someone who works in the trade. If you are a Boeing employee you can contact a supervisor and request a tour of an area where the trade is active. Plan to ask questions about the work, equipment, physical and technical skills required, the future demand for qualified workers, and other questions you may have. To locate a supervisor and request a tour, visit the Shop Coordinator page of the internal apprenticeship website. If you are not a current Boeing employee, you may wish to visit a local technical college, search the web, or visit a local library for job specific information. Once you have selected an apprenticeship trade, continue on to Step 5.

Review the Minimum Requirements Each apprenticeship trade has specific requirements that you must complete before you apply. If the committee finds that you have not completed them, your application will not be accepted. There are two ways that you can qualify for an apprenticeship: 1. The first way is to qualify through Work Experience. If you have worked in your chosen trade or in a similar trade for the required length of time (1 or 2 years, depending upon the trade), you need only complete the Math Assessment*. Each trade has a list of suggested work experience areas. If your work experience is not listed, it may still be acceptable. The committee will decide if it qualifies when they review your application. 2. The second way to qualify is through Vocational Training. If you have never worked in your chosen trade or in a similar trade, you can qualify by completing a list of required courses*; each trade has a separate list. It can take a long time to complete them all, but don't be discouraged. Completing these courses will demonstrate to the committee that you are capable of commitment and are willing and able to set and achieve goals. * The Math Assessment is made up of four modules: Math Level 2, Algebra Level 2, Geometry, and Trigonometry. Applicants may complete the associated modules of the math assessment in place of the noted course. Please note that the math courses or the Math Assessment must have been completed within the last 5 years. Now that you understand the requirements, continue on to Step 6.
