Course Overview Students are studying for GCSEs in Gujarati with OCR. Year 10 and year11 Over the course of year 10 and 11, students will complete GCSE course in Gujarati learning 5 main topics. They will build on skills in listening, speaking reading and writing, and will make progress in a variety of tasks involved all these skills. Topics are as follow: *Work and Education: School life in the UK and in Gujarat: Work experience, future studies and working abroad. *Leisure and entertainment: Socialising, special occasions and festivals, TV, films and music *Home and local area: Life in the home; Friends and relationships Local area, facilities and getting around *Travel and the wider world: Holidays & exchanges Environmental, cultural and social issues *Sport: Sport outdoor pursuits and healthy lifestyle Health: Food and drink as aspects of culture and health Examinations Students will study for four unit examinations for Gujarati Language including speaking conducted by teacher (marked externally). Students will enter for all the four skills in summer examination series. All the units have same weighting e.g. 25% of each. There is written exam and no course work. Revision In the run up to any exams, teacher will be setting revision tasks that can be completed at home. These could include past practice papers and resources from internet and extra reading books. Other Curriculum Activities Teacher will run extra revision classes for all students to support preparing for final exams. Some will take place after school, others will take place during Easter holidays. How to help your child in Gujarati

Encourage them to read at home. This can be anything from a newspaper or online newspapers or article published online. Also encourage them to use bilingual dictionary effectively while writing on topics they learnt during the course. Other ways to support include checking over home learning that has been completed and asking your child to share their ideas. You could also speak to them about what their targets are in Gujarati and practise speaking topics in home language including tenses, opinions, justifications and comparatives.
