Aim and objective of physical Education department The aim and objective of the department is to encourage the students to participate in various sports events in order to acquire the physical and psychological benefits as mentioned below

Sports Facilities available Our Management has provided all the sports facilities as detailed below. The students make full use of the facilities and sports equipments for their regular practice and for the participation in the Inter University and other Competitions. 400 Meters Athletic Track with full equipments and Gallery facilities (1) Football Ground (1) Volleyball Court (1) Basketball Court (1) Ball Badminton Courts (2) 1with flood light facility Tennis Courts (2) Badminton Court (1) (outdoor) Tennikoit court (1) Cricket Practice Pitch (1) and Facility to play Table Tennis, Carrom and Chess. National Sports Organization (NSO) 1.NSO Classes are conducted during last period everyday during the 1st Semester and 2nd Semester. 2.Totally 500 to 600 Students from first year B.Tech, B.Arch Courses attend NSO Classes every Year. 3.Three sections of students (each section 60 Students) are engaged by three staff members of Physical Education Department. 4.The Staff members are engaging students for a total of 15 hours a week. 5.During NSO period, the students are trained in physical fitness for few periods. 6.The students are taught and given training in various sports skills during certain classes. 7.Students take part in minor games and recreational activities during some classes. 8.Students are taught various rules and regulations in each game / event during NSO Classes.

Selection trials Selection trials are conducted in all the games and events during the beginning of the academic year. Men and Women teams are selected during the trials for participating in Various Inter University and Inter Institutional tournaments.

Coaching Camps Coaching Camps are being organized for Men & Women teams daily in all games & Athletic events to improve the skills and fitness level for better performance in various competitions. Sports Quota 1. Selection trials are conducted to select the Men and Women Ball Badminton players under sports Quota during second week of April every year. 2. The selected students are given full scholarship in Tution fees and free hostel accommodation and boarding facility

Highlights 1. Attractive Cash Prizes are awarded to 4 Prize Winners in each game (Foot Ball - Men, Basket Ball – Men, Ball Badminton – Men and Ball Badminton Women) in addition to Rolling Trophies, Individual Prizes, and Certificates. 2. Free boarding and lodging facilities are provided to all participants in the State Level tournaments being organized by Physical Education Department. 3. Cash Prizes are awarded every year to outstanding Sportspersons who win Prizes at the National Level and State Level tournaments / competitions during the sports day function. 4. Special Prizes are awarded to two outstanding all round Sports persons (one in Men Section and another in Women Section) who excel in the various tournaments (Best Sportsman and Best Sportswoman award)

Sports Day Annual Sports day is being celebrated every year in a grand manner. Intra University matches are being conducted in 11 games for Men Section, 9 games for Women section during the months of January, February and March. Around 600 Men Students and 300 Women Students participate in various events. In addition to that, around 300 Men and Women Athletes compete in 15 Athletic events and 13 events respectively in Heats, Trials and Finals of various events. Swimming competition is conducted for Men students. During Annual Sports day, selected few Athletic events for Men and Women Students, few events for Men & Women Staff are conducted. Inaugural ceremony with March past by students (inter year basis), followed by Olympic torch bearing and Oath taking by captain of various games is organized. Medals and Certificates are awarded to first two prize Winners in all the games and three prize Winners in Athletics and swimming competition. Trophies are awarded to Men and Women individual champions separately and Rolling Trophies are awarded to overall team champion for Men & Women separately. Special Cash Prizes are awarded to sports persons who have won prizes at the National level, State Level and University Level competitions during sports day function. Special Trophies are awarded to Best Sports man and Best sports woman respectively.

Academic year 2011-2012 Dr. S. Chandran, Director of Physical Education & Head attended the Anna University Zonal Sports Committee meeting held at Dhaanish Ahmed College of Engineering on 11th August 2011to finalize the dates venues for conducting Zonal Tournaments for the year 2011-12 Dr. S. Chandran, Director of Physical Education & Head was nominated as selection committee member to select the zonal combined teams in Foot Ball on 23rd & 24th August 2011. Dr. S. Chandran, Director of Physical Education & Head was appointed as warden of KBA Men's Hostel from August 2011 to co-ordinate day to day activities of the hostel in addition to his departmental work Dr. R. Auvai, Director of Physical Education (Sr.Gr) was nominated as Executive Member of TIES - 2011 Tournaments Organized by J.J. College Engineering and Technology, Tiruchirappalli. Dr. R. Auvai, Deputy Director of Physical Education attended the executive Committee Meeting of TIES – 2012 held at J.J College of Engineering & Technology, Tiruchirapalli on 17th & 18th November 2011 for drawing the fixtures for Men events & finalizing the dates for TIES – 2012. Mr. B. Akbar Ali, Asst. Director of Physical Education was nominated as Selection Committee member for selecting the Anna University Volleyball Men team during the Inter zonal Volleyball tournament organized by C. Abdul Hakeem College of Engineering & Technology, Melvisharam, Vellore on 19th and 20th December 2011. Mr. B. Akbar Ali, Asst. Director of Physical Education was nominated as Team Manager for the Anna University Volleyball Men team which Participated in the South zone Inter University Volleyball tournament held at Bharathiar University, Coimbatore from 26th to 31st December 2011. Dr. R. Auvai, Deputy Director of Physical Education, accompanied as Team Manager in the All India Inter University Ball Badminton tournament held at Mangalore from 27th to 30th December 2011 Organized by Mangalore University at Alva'S Group of Institutions, Moodabidri, Mangalore. Director of Physical Education, accompanied as the team Manager in the All India Inter University Ball Badminton Tournament held at Mangalore from 26th January 2012 to 3rd February 2012 organized by Mangalore University at Alva'S Group of Institutions, Moodabidri, at Mangalore.

Academic year 2010-2011 Dr. S. Chandran, Director of Physical Education & Head attended the 5th Academic Council meeting of Tamilnadu Physical Education and Sports University on 15 July 2010 in the University Premises in connection with the approval of Syllabus for Various new courses to be offered by the University under Distance Education mode from the academic year 2010 -11. Dr. S. Chandran, Director of Physical Education & Head attended the Anna University Zone-IV 'A' General Body Meeting at Dhaanish Ahmed College of Engineering, Padappai, to finalize the Sports Calendar (Zonal Events, Dates & Venue & Selection Committee members, Cricket Fixtures ,etc ) on 5 August 2010

Dr. S. Chandran, Director of Physical Education & Head attended the Executive Committee and General Body Meeting of TIES-2011 on 22nd & 23rd September 2010 at Kings College of Engineeringh, Pudukottai to finalize the dates for TIES2011. Dr. S. Chandran, Director of Physical Education & Head accompanied as the team Manager in the All India Inter University Ball Badminton Tournament held at SRM University, Potheri from 10th to 14th January 2011. Dr. R. Auvai, Physical Director (Sr.Gr) accompanied as the team Manager in the All India Inter University Ball Badminton Tournament held at SRM University, Potheri from 10th to14th January 2011. Dr. R. AUVAI, Director of Physical Education (Sr.G), presented a paper titled. “Effect of Yogasanas on Physiological and psychological Traits of Engineering College girls” at the National Conference on Yoga : Caring, Sharing and Empowering” organized by Departrment of Yoga, Tamilnadu Physical Education and Sports University ,Chennai on 20th & 21st December 2010 . Dr. R. Auvai, Director of Physical Education (Sr.Gr) attended the National Workshop on Modern Trends in Yoga and Allied Therapies organized by Department of Yoga, Tamilnadu Physical Education and Sports University in Coordination with Viniyoga Healing Foundation of India at Chennai on 26th March 2011.

Academic year 2009-2010 Dr. S. Chandran, Director of Physical Education & Head attended the Tamilnadu Inter Unitary University General Body Meeting of TIUS-2009 during the month of July 2009 at S.R.M. University, Potheri. Dr. R. Auvai, Physical Director (Sr.Gr) was nominated by the Anna University Sports Board as a member of the Selection Committee to select the Anna University team in Judo Competition Men & Women held at Nehru Stadium on 18th August 2009. Dr. S. Chandran, Director of Physical Education & Head attended the Executive Committee of TIES 2009 on 31st August 2009 at P.S.N.A College of Engineering, Dindigul to finalize the dates for TIES 2009. Dr. R. Auvai, Physical Director (Sr.Gr) accompanied as team Manager in the South Zone inter University Tennis Tournament held at Annamalai University, Chidamparam from 4th to 6th January 2010. Dr. S.
