THE STAVANGER REGION The Stavanger region includes 16 municipalities. With a population of more than 330.000 it is the third largest city region in Norway. Stavanger is the region’s largest city with a population of around 130,000. The distance from mountains to fjords is short. The region offers wide-stretched beaches as far as the eye can see, colourful culture and spectacular culinary highlights.
Just to mention some; canoeing, kayaking, fishing, salmon safari, surfing, kiting, climbing, ZIP line, rappelling, SUP, boating, skiing, cycling, hiking or extreme sports such as base jumping or paragliding. Norway’s best surfing conditions are actually found along the Jæren beaches in the Stavanger region.
A short journey out of the city will take you to the world-famous tourist brochure sights such as Preikestolen (Pulpit Rock), Kjeragbolten and to the many stunning fjords in the area. The opportunities for an active holiday are endless in the entire region.
Restaurants and ingredients in this part of Norway have received excellent reviews from food critics, and today two restaurants in Stavanger hold the highly sought after Michelin star.
