Most people know what the Buy Box is, but if you don’t here is what we are talking about today:

Before we get started it’s important to understand how FBA works: FBA is an Amazon program where sellers send their inventory to an Amazon warehouse and Amazon fulfills the orders for you. Amazon charges fees for this service, but as you will see, you sell a lot more products if they are in FBA.

Amazon looks at the total price including shipping. If an item is in FBA, Amazon assumes the shipping cost is zero.

When you click on an item from an Amazon search, Amazon serves up the lowest price (new) item from all the sellers. This is my least favorite way to win the buy box. Many sellers (including Amazon) use automated re-pricing systems to constantly guarantee them the lowest price.

This is my favorite way to win the buy box. You do this by finding and negotiating exclusive rights to sell the product on Amazon. Here are some of the items where I have an exclusive on Amazon.

Use the concept of “bundling and Multi-packing” to create an item no one else has. You will eventually be copied so you want to become a moving target.
