ABOUT THE CFA SINGAPORE RESEARCH PROGRAMME

Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) & IBF STANDARDS The Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) Programme is a globally recognised, graduate level curriculum that provides a strong foundation of real-world investment analysis and portfolio management skills along with the practical knowledge you need in today’s investment industry. It also emphasises the highest ethical and professional standards. The IBF Standards (previously known as the Financial Industry Competency Standards or FICS) represent a set of competency standards developed by the industry, for the industry. It provides a practice-oriented development roadmap for financial sector practitioners to attain the necessary training to excel in their respective job roles. The CFA Singapore Research Programme helps prepare graduates, young and mid-career professionals for entry level research analysts’ positions. It is ideal for anyone seeking employment and a career in investment research or a related field as they work towards a goal of attaining the CFA® and becoming an IBF-certified practitioner. The CFA Singapore Research Programme (IBF Level 1) and CFA Singapore Research Programme (IBF Level 2) are developed for CFA® Level 1 and Level 2 examination candidates respectively. Course participants taking the CFA Singapore Research Programme (IBF Level 2) mostly have some Finance or Investment sector experience and prior completion of the IBF Level 1 programme is preferable although not a must.

Module A which spans over 19 sessions helps students to prepare for the Level 1 CFA® examination. Each session is 3.5 hours and groups are kept at an optimal size to encourage active engagement and interaction between lecturers and students through short discussions and practice questions on key concepts.

Module B will be conducted over 4 sessions to hone the students’ practical analysis on financial information and statements.

Module C will be covered over 5 sessions and it aims to equip students with further product knowledge on technical analysis, foreign exchange, commodities and collective investment schemes.

Module A prepares students for the Level 2 CFA® examinations. It spans over 19 sessions and each session is 3.5 hours. Each session is delivered in a classroom format and every group is kept at an optimal size to encourage active engagement and interaction between lecturers and students through short discussions and practice questions on key concepts.

Module B will be conducted over 8 sessions to hone the students’ practical analysis on financial information and statements.

Module C will be covered over 5 sessions and it aims to equip students with further product knowledge on technical analysis, foreign exchange, commodities and collective investment schemes.

CFA SINGAPORE RESEARCH PROGRAMME REQUIREMENTS

MINIMUM ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS Applicants must be either Singapore Citizens or PR and required to have a Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent. Documents required: University transcripts & certificate A scanned copy of NRIC

IBF Standards Training Scheme (IBF-STS) This programme has been accredited under the IBF Standards, and is eligible for funding under the IBF Standards Training Scheme (IBFSTS), subject to all eligibility criteria being met. Candidates are advised to assess the suitability of the programme and its relevance to their business activities or job roles. IBF-STS provides 70% funding for direct training costs subjected to a cap of S$7,000 per candidate per programme subject to all eligibility criteria being met. With effect from 1 July 2016, Singapore Citizens aged 40 years old and above are eligible for 90% co-funding of direct training costs, subject to a cap of S$7,000 per participant per programme. Who Are Eligible? Self-sponsored Individuals Non Company-sponsored participants are required to be Singapore Citizens or Singapore Permanent Residents physically based in Singapore. Company-sponsored Individuals Company-Sponsored participants are required to be Singapore Citizens or Permanent Residents, physically based in Singapore and staff* of Singapore-based financial sector entities being sponsored for the programmes. Financial sector entities would refer to financial institutions & entities regulated by MAS (either licensed or exempted from licensing). Entities that are signicantly involved in supporting financial sector activities will be assessed for eligibility on a case-by-case basis. To qualify for IBF-STS funding, trainees must successfully complete the training programme (including passing all relevant assessments and examinations). Staff who attend a programme in the capacity of an instructor or facilitator, e.g. presenter/speaker/panelist are not eligible for IBF-STS funding. * Qualifying expenses incurred on the training of both executive and non-executive staff, as well as staff employed on a short-term basis of less than one year (inclusive of contract staff and interns) will be eligible for funding under IBF-STS and FTS, subject to meeting the conditions under these schemes. License agents or representatives (i.e. financial advisors, traders, insurance agents, remisiers) representing a legal principal entity may be included in the claims of the principal entity.
