Cisco User Connect Licensing What Is It? Cisco® User Connect Licensing (UCL) is a user-based licensing model for most Cisco Unified Communications 8.0 products and future releases, including Cisco Unified Communications Essential Operate Service. With UCL, Cisco channel partners no longer need to quote server software, device license units (DLUs), ports, options, etc.—only the number of users and public-space devices are counted and licensed. All right-to-use (RTU) fees, DLU fees, port licenses, etc. are converted to a single Cisco User Connect License.

Licensing Guidance The guidelines that follow explain the details of Cisco UCL from a software licensing standpoint as it relates to a user’s set of phones and soft clients. These guidelines do not include hardware costs for phones or licensing for public-space devices. To define the set of UCL licenses required for a user, follow these steps:

Cisco User Connect Licensing Step 1: Set up license for user’s primary device or client:

Scenario A: Users with Cisco Unified IP Phones or third-party IP phones in a set of owned phones:

Primary device is always the most advanced phone model for a user. Adjunct licenses apply to phones or clients of equal or lesser value. Start with the most advanced phone model. If this phone model is a Cisco Unified IP Phone 6901 or 6911 model, purchase a Primary Basic IP User license (US$125). Otherwise, purchase a Primary Enhanced IP User license (US$210). If the phone model is the Cisco Unified IP Phone 9900 Series and the Cisco Unified Video Camera is planned for use to support video communications or third-party phones with a video camera to support video communications, add an adjunct license for video (US$85).

• Add additional adjunct licenses for other phones and soft clients (see step 2). Scenario B: Users with no hardware-based desk phones in set of owned phones: • • •

Start with the first soft client and purchase a Primary User License for that phone (US$210). Add the client license price for Cisco IP Communicator (US$90) or other soft client (US$50). Add additional adjunct licenses for other clients (see step 2).

Step 2: Set up licenses for additional clients:

To add an additional hardware-based desk phone, purchase an adjunct license (US$85). If the hardware-based desk phone has a video camera and is planned to support video communications, purchase an additional adjunct video license (US$85). Note: Phones that fall into the Enhanced User license category may not be added as adjunct licenses to a Primary Basic IP User license. To add an additional soft client, purchase an adjunct license (US$85) and a client license. To add Cisco Unified Video Advantage, purchase a client license only (US$100). (Note: Cisco Unified Video Advantage is supported on selected models of Cisco Unified IP Phone 6900 and 7900 Series endpoints as well as Cisco soft clients such as Cisco IP Communicator.)

Example: Licensing for a user with a primary Cisco Unified IP Phone 9900 Series endpoint equipped with a Cisco Unified Video Camera, Cisco IP Communicator, and Cisco Unified Video Advantage—although this example may benefit from Cisco UWL pricing:

How to Migrate Customers Scenario 1: Customer with existing Cisco Unified Communications Software Subscription (UCSS) contract

Order software copies through Product Upgrade Tool (PUT). When you upgrade, you are now on Cisco UCSS on the basis of your Cisco UCSS contract. Scenario 2: Customer without Cisco UCSS contract Option 1:

Buy a user-based upgrade. Pay full upgrade price for each user, typically 50 percent of new-user cost.

You are now migrated to Cisco UCL on the new version. Option 2:

Buy discounted user-based upgrade (3 & 3 Upgrade Offer). You must purchase a 3-year Cisco UCSS contract at the same time. You are now migrated to Cisco UCL on the new version. It is always less expensive than the full-priced upgrade, and it provides future version upgrades. Scenario 3: Customer migrating from DLU to Cisco UCL and Cisco UWL with no current Cisco UCSS.



Order appropriate migration part numbers, mixing Cisco UWL and Cisco UCL as desired, and mandatory Cisco UCSS and ESW on all users.



You may take advantage of promotion pricing in this case for Cisco UCL users. Scenario 4: Customer migrating from multiple Cisco UWL + DLU clusters to single Cisco UWL + Cisco UCL cluster.

Order new software version through the PUT. Order the appropriate migration part numbers, mixing Cisco UWL and Cisco UCL as desired, and mandatory Cisco UCSS and ESW on all users.
