Course Title: Social Studies “People We Know” Grade: 2 Credits: 1.0 Lessons per week: 2/3 (total 36 weeks) Subject Philosophy:

Social Studies is a vehicle for examining and developing our own biblical worldview and exploring the worldview of others. God is relational, and made us in His image. We study His purpose for man in relationship to one another and stewardship of the world. The many branches of Social Studies awaken a sense of citizenship in a cultural context. History, Geography, Economics, Government, Civics and Sociology sensitize students to their role in their immediate and larger communities. As we study the past, we can understand the structure of the present, and have a framework for planning the future.

Course Summary:

This course builds a foundational knowledge of the 5 themes of Geography (location, place, human-environment interaction, movement and regions). It introduces students to the basics of government, geography, environment, history, culture and economics. The students will learn the material through a variety of projects, activities and literature. The course uses the Harcourt Social Studies Textbook ‘People We Know’.
