I am a retired senior and an active musician, I have played (traditional jazz) for many years and play
several gigs every week, but I recently sustained an injury to my left thumb (overuse-playing banjo) and may need to change instruments so I am a beginning trombone student. I will probably need some lessons asap, but this book seems like a good place to start working/learning on my own. It's working for me for the 'basics' and I would recommend it.
If you want to start the trombone, get this book! This tells you notes, positions, reading the staff, everything! I don't think I could of learned how to play the trombone if I did not have this book. If you want to learn, get this book!10 out of 5!!!
this is really a band book but it works fine for teach-yourself instructions or with an instructor.I'm afraid it leans heavily on the "marching band" keys, but it gets you playing quickly with a good range of notes. The songs are on CD with and without the melody line which is very helpful for tempo.I have the first two for trombone (to learn) and the first one for flute (to teach) and I'm very pleased with them.
this book is really good for everyone who wants to know the basics first and be one step furter to mastering the trombone
I've been using it with my beginning band students this year and I like it. A solid beginner's band book - goes over the positions / fingerings for each instrument with a chart in the back, and introduces the notes in an easy, logical order that isn't too fast or slow. I would buy it again. Only negative is I was surprised it's not available at a lower price, even used. But I guess that speaks to the popularity of the series.
I finally received my book for my daughter and the front cover looks like it was very used. There is writing throughout the entire book and there is no cd or dvd as it showed. Frustrated that I paid for a book in good condition at least and the discs but received the opposite.
I bought this for my son, and it is very helpful. The cd that came with it could go into a bit more detail, but overall if I had to rate it on a scal of 1 to 10 I'd give it an 8. Very good for begining players.
My son uses this book to practice on his trombone, it's really great because it offers songs that are well known so he can learn them on his own. At the school he goes to he recieved this book, they
have a book for every instrument at his school. But if your school doesn't offer it, would be a great place to order it from! They have every instrument on here!
