Governance and Natural Resource Management Component - Examples of activities • Resolution of conflicts between herders and farmers over resource use • Preparation of land use maps (POAS) and Local Conventions with commonly-agreed rules • Early warning systems brought down to the commune level using an existing national plan • Regular coordination meetings with government resilience strategy orgs (3N, Rural Sector Program)
Health and Nutrition Component Examples of activities Gardening and Nutrition
Water, Hygiene, Sanitation
• Community /school and home-based gardens
• Construct multi-user water sources (separate animals/ humans)
• Minimum: 2 moringa and 2 baobab trees in each home garden; grafted fruit trees
• Assistance for village water and sanitation committees
• Emphasis on mother and infant foods to reduce malnutrition
• Access to low-cost technologies (latrines, tippy tap...) • Health services quality improvement committees
Social and Behavior Change Communications (SBCC) Principles • Focus on small, do-able actions, not just knowledge • Build on existing values, approaches and concerns • Provide triggers, levers and support for trial and adoption of improved behaviors • Based on analysis of factors that facilitate or block uptake of behaviors
Strategy and Methods • Overarching project strategy: multi-media (radio-focused) participatory, integrated • Linking of media interventions with peer group, interpersonal discussions, and job aids • Harmonize demand creation and supply
