Job Title: Lecturer / Senior Lecturer in Strategy and Responsible Management Grade: Lecturer (Grade F) / Senior Lecturer (Grade G) College: Professional Services Campus: University Square/ University House Responsible to: Head of Department of Business Responsible for whom: Not applicable Liaison with: Programme leaders of UG and PG Programmes

JOB PURPOSE:    

To develop and deliver academic provision in Strategy and Responsible Management and related disciplines. To undertake research and scholarship evidenced by publications and to participate in third stream income generating activities. To deliver on operational responsibilities as allocated by the Head of Department. To contribute to and participate in University led and/or College initiatives and developments in line with strategic plans and KPIs.

MAIN DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:         

    

To teach and assess students in Strategy and Responsible Management at all levels (3-8). To exercise a high standard output-oriented research both personally and as a member of a team. To supervise UG, PG and Doctoral level student work. To contribute to the development, design, delivery and leadership of modules at various levels, including assessments methods, ensuring that the learning materials and methods of delivery meet defined learning objectives. To support the Head of Department to ensure the effective day to day operation of the allocated academic area. To undertake operational and administrative responsibilities as allocated (e.g. module leader); making an important contribution to the accreditation of courses and quality control processes; playing a key role in validations, liaising with accreditation bodies as necessary. Working with colleagues in order to ensure the smooth running of programmes and modules and the achievement of Department and University deadlines. To support curriculum development and new course development. To take on responsibilities (leading small projects where appropriate), in relation to University led and/or Department strategic initiatives including areas such as commercial income generation activity; student recruitment and retention; partnership development; development of flexible and work based learning provision; development of widening participation activities. To participate with other staff in the development of teaching, learning and assessment strategies. To play a role in representing both the course(s) and the School in student recruitment and retention activities including participation in Clearing activities during the summer period and in Open Days throughout the year. To assist with the pastoral care of students as Academic Advisor. To undertake staff development as needs are identified by the individual and/or line manager. To enhance the quality of teaching provision and programme development, drawing on leading practices from the HE and other sectors, and building e-learning into the delivery of teaching to students as appropriate, including electronic formative and summative assessment.

      

To maintain and develop areas of expertise in appropriate ways under the general guidance and oversight of the appropriate academic manager, contributing to the discipline area’s activities and reputation both internally and externally. To participate in University activities as required through membership of committees, working groups etc., as required. To be involved in research informed teaching projects as required. To be involved in the School’s and the wider University quality assurance systems and processes. To engage as link tutor on the Overseas Collaboration and partnership portfolio. To contribute to the attainment and direction of the Schools strategic plans, their development and execution. To undertake any other duties and responsibilities as may reasonably be required from time to time by the Head of Department or Dean.

For those wishing to be considered for the role as Senior Lecturer, additional contributions expected include:  To lead academic programmes(s) in relevant areas as directed by the Head of Department.  To lead Centres of Research and or Centres of Professional Practice in allied areas.  To lead as appropriate the review, development and quality enhancement of current or new programmes as required.  To lead as appropriate on developments within the Department in at least one of the following areas as needed: Research and Scholarship, Research informed Teaching & Learning, External income generation, Student employability, Student experience, Student retention /achievement and Outreach. EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS AND ACHIEVEMENTS: Essential criteria • •

PhD in a related subject and topic (A) Proven track record of Research and Scholarship (A)

Membership of relevant professional body (A) Fellowship of the HEA (A)

KNOWLEDGE AND EXPERIENCE: Essential criteria • Sufficient knowledge of subject and research methods. (A,I) • Experience of Teamwork (A,I) • Experience of teaching/supervision of students. For appointment to SL, experience in module and/or programme development and leadership is required. (A,I) • The aptitude to develop familiarity with a variety of pedagogic strategies to promote and assess learning (I) Desirable criteria • Practitioner experience in the field. (A,I) • A strong record in attracting funding. (A,I) • Ability to network and foster interactions and links with other educational bodies, professional institutions and employers (I)

COMMUNICATION • Ability to summarise and interpret complex, conceptual and specialist matters using a range of styles and media selected to meet the needs of a diverse audience (I,P)

SERVICE DELIVERY • Experience of exploring and adapting a service to meet student expectations and also identifying ways of improving standards (I) DECISION MAKING • Experience of taking independent decisions over the design and delivery of own modules and assessment methods, collaborating with colleagues about implementation (I)

PLANNING AND ORGANISING RESOURCES • Experience of planning, prioritising and organising the work or resources of self and others within own area on a daily, weekly or monthly basis, co-ordinating with others, ensuring students needs and expectations are met. (I) INITIATIVE AND PROBLEM SOLVING • Experience of using initiative and creativity to resolve problems where the optimal solution may not be immediately apparent but has to be assessed by a process of reasoning.(P,I)

ANALYSIS AND RESEARCH • Engagement with subject, professional and pedagogy research to support teaching activities. (P,I) • Conduct individual or collaborative scholarly projects. (A,I) • Identify sources of funding and contribute to the process of securing funds for own scholarly activities, where appropriate. (I) • Extend, transform and apply knowledge acquired from scholarship to teaching and appropriate external activities. The role holder is also required to develop and produce learning materials and disseminate the results of scholarly activity. (I) PASTORAL CARE AND WELFARE • Experience of providing first line support and advice on commonly occurring welfare issues or queries in line with the standard welfare procedures for the University, appreciating the needs of students and their personal circumstances.
