CARTA DE BIENVENIDA Queridos compañeros y amigos,

Otro enero más nos reunimos para hablar de la rodilla. ¡Es tan hermosa! Y además muy vulnerable por su especial biomecánica y localización. No sólo se abre como un libro, charnela o puerta batiente, como se pensaba clásicamente, sino que además goza de movimiento rotacional que se pone de manifiesto nada más abandonar la extensión e iniciar la flexión. Gran parte de su vulnerabilidad se la debe a este componente rotacional favorecido por la asimetría de cóndilos femorales, platillos tibiales desiguales, meniscos y ligamentos también diferentes. La primera parte del XV Curso Internacional de Rodilla se ocupa de ciencia básica de rodilla, anatomía quirúrgica, ambiente sinovial, rótula y ligamentos. La parte central del curso estará dedicada a la ciencia meniscal, daremos un profundo y exhaustivo repaso a todo lo relacionado con los meniscos, interno y externo. El sábado en la mañana se ocupará de las lesiones del tendón rotuliano en el deporte y de las distintas vicisitudes que puede sufrir un atleta en el transcurso del tratamiento de dicha lesión contando la participación del Prof. Häkan Alfredson. Además habrá talleres sobre la Artroscopia sin Cables (WAD, Dr. Guillén), sutura ósea por vía artroscópica y cultivos celulares (Condrocitos). Os esperamos el último fin de semana de enero de 2016 para, de forma científica, distendida y amigable, discutir sobre las diferentes patologías de la rodilla, que es la articulación más frecuente lesionada en el hombre tanto en el deporte como fuera de él. En los albores del siglo XXI grandes avances diagnósticos y terapéuticos se nos muestran a los especialistas de la rodilla para obtener buenos resultados en las patologías de la misma.

WELCOME LETTER Dear colleagues and friends,

Once again we meet in January to discuss matters concerning the knee. Such a beauty! Additionally, due to its unique biomechanics and localization, it is also vulnerable. Not only can it open up as if it were a book, hinge or swinging door –following the classical school of thought- it also proves to have a rotational component in its movements which is clearly visible just after departing the full extension position and commencing its flexion. And it’s precisely this intrinsic rotational nature which provides the knee such vulnerability, further favoured by an asymmetry in the femoral condyles, uneven tibial plateaus as well as menisci and ligaments which are unmatching. The first part of this year’s XV International Knee Course deals with basic science of the knee, surgical anatomy, synovial environment, patella and ligaments. The central section of the course will discuss meniscus science, providing an all-inclusive and comprehensive review of all aspects related to both internal and external menisci. Saturday morning, Prof. Häkan Alfredson and other experts will be reviewing patellar tendon injuries in sport and several other upsets an athlete may encounter when such a lesion is undergoing treatment. Wireless arthroscopy (WAD, Dr. Guillén) workshops will also take place, together with bone suture by arthroscopy and cell culture (chondrocyte) hands-on sessions. We look forward to welcoming you on the last weekend of January 2016, in order to discuss knee pathologies in a scientific, amicable and leisurely manner. The knee, the most frequently injured joint in the human body, whether you practice sport or not. While the 21st Century is still unfolding, great diagnostic and therapeutic advances emerge before our very eyes, enabling knee specialists to draw excellent outcomes in knee pathologies.
