When I started work on this collection I had no fixed idea of a theme or motif. I wished to create a series of compositions that would encapsulate everything that is important to me both personally and artistically, but I was determined to let my imagination take over and see where it led me. As I thought and sketched and thought again, I found myself revisiting some of the memories that I have held most dear over the years. Taking such a relaxed approach to the subject of each piece has been a liberating experience for me, and I believe that I have created some of the most authentic and emotionally charged work of my life.

Although I am always happy to discuss my work, in other ways I am a man of few words, and when I sign off I tend to use only my initial. But when the message is for someone I love, I always combine it with a kiss. I have chosen to use this intimate version of my signature for ‘Yours Truly’, as a gesture of my very real appreciation not only of my family and friends, but also of the loyal collectors who have supported me over the last few years.

When I first saw Suzi I knew that she was the one. I was tongue-tied and shy and remember the sense of my heart racing as I tried to think of something to say to her. Just a few short months later we were engaged to be married – both of our hearts had raced away ahead of our sensible selves; should we wait a while and take things more slowly? I’m delighted to say that, as usual, our hearts won out over our heads.

Anyone who has ever been in love will be familiar with the ups and downs that accompany this most fickle of emotions. For us though, whether we are on a high or a low, we are still holding tight to each other and doing our best to weather any storm together.

One day we were out in the countryside enjoying one of the few sunny afternoons of the year. The children were playing in the grass and suddenly my daughter Eliza came running over with a daisy she’d picked. The baby was asleep in her pushchair and Eliza leaned over and laid the flower on her cheek.
