Surat al Mulk – The Dominion
Ayat 12 - 15

20 June 2012. Surat al Mulk – 67 The Dominion Sister Eman al Obaid www.alhudasisters.wordpress.com
We read Surat al Mulk at night for protection against azab al qabr (the punishment of the grave), expiation of our sins, and to intercede for the person until one enters Paradise. Everytime Allah subhana wa ta'ala mentions the people of Hell or the punishment you will feel fear. After that Allah subhana wa ta'ala will mentions the hope of the other groups, the people of Paradise.
67:12 Indeed, those who fear their Lord unseen will have forgiveness and great reward.
inna - indeed. Inna is for affirmation. After hearing about the Hellfire you will fear Allah subhana wa ta'ala because of the knowledge you know have.
yakhshawna – fear Khashiya is fear with knowledge. People fear rabbahum, fear their Rabb, the King, the Nurturer and the Reformer. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will not put people in Hellfire without nurturing them in life. Who will make them to know Allah subhana wa ta'ala is rabbahum. Khashiya is an ibadah. The ulema have khashiya. The believers are afraid of Allah subhana wa ta'ala before Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s punishment. The fear we have towards Allah subhana wa ta'ala is not like the fear we have for people where you don’t want to see them so you avoid them. But the more you have khashiya the more you will flee to Allah subhana wa ta'ala. The concept of the Fear of Allah subhana wa ta'ala is difficult for some people. This fear is from Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s power and greatness. This fear comes with magnifying Allah subhana wa ta'ala and the love of Allah subhana wa ta'ala. People who are sinning and exceeding their boundaries have no khashiya. Khashiya reforms the human being and is an ibadah. An ibadah of what? Kashiya is the worship of the heart which has more hasanat than the worship of the limbs. The Reformer will help me to get this khashiya. When you know Him you will have khashiya which is a worship of the heart. But if you fear any human being you will humiliate yourself. So Allah subhana wa ta'ala is worthy to have the khashiya because of His Greatness. It is narrated from Ibn Abbas (May Allah be pleased with him) that-he said: "The seven heavens and seven earths will be as small in Allah's Hand as a seed of mustard

Ayat 12 - 15
in one of your hands."
The whole Universe in Allah subhana wa ta'ala ’s Hands is like a mustard seed so you will fear Allah subhana wa ta'ala. His fear comes after the love. The love of Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the motive but the way of reforming is al khashiyah min Allah. 1. to know Allah subhana wa ta'ala is reforming you I need khashiyah 2. He is worthy of having khashiyah People who are afraid of human beings are miserable in life. Khashiya min Allah, this will give you power.
bil ghaybi – unseen. st
This 1 meaning of this ayah means some people are having this ibadah without seeing Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Your test in life is to believe in everything that is ghayb, unseen. You will get the result on the Day of Judgement which is unseen. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will honour them and raise them in rank. nd
The 2 meaning is that they are afraid of Allah subhana wa ta'ala even if they are ghayb from the people. You really fear Allah subhana wa ta'ala when you are away from peoples eyes, you are still mustaqeen, straight, still fearing and obeying Allah subhana wa ta'ala. You fear Allah subhana wa ta'ala in all conditions and situations. Al khashiya is the best way of reforming oneself. The Prophet said: There are seven whom Allah ill shade in His Shade on the Day when there is no shade except His Shade: a just ruler; a youth who grew up in the worship of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic; a man whose heart is attached to the mosques; two men who love each other for Allah's sake, meeting for that and parting upon that; a man who is called by a woman of beauty and position [for illegal intercourse], but be says: 'I fear Allah', a man who gives in charity and hides it, such that his left hand does not know what his right hand gives in charity; and a man who remembered Allah in private and so his eyes shed tears.' Narrated by Abu Hurairah & collected in Sahih al-Bukhari (english trans.) vol.1, p.356, no.629 & Sahih Muslim english trans.) vol.2, p.493, no.2248 One of the people shaded in the Day of Judgement is one who when alone worships Allah subhana wa ta'ala and his eyes wept and cried. The crying is not in front of people. In Ramadhan people imitate crying when in groups. Al khashiya is an Ibadat. The beginning of surat al Mulk said you need to do your best. You need to do your best not because people will watch and admire you. 67:2 [He] who created death and life to test you [as to] which of you is best in deed - and He is the Exalted in Might, the Forgiving •
will have forgiveness and great reward
What has Allah subhana wa ta'ala promised them? First we had the description then the reward, so firstly your actions are important.

Surat al Mulk – The Dominion
Ayat 12 - 15
Lahum – for them. Lahum is something very personal. The people of Paradise will feel they are the best and it is lahum, something Allah subhana wa ta'ala prepared especially for them. They will get two things:
Maghfiratun – forgiveness Maghfiratun comes from ghafarer, helmet or to cover, protection. Human beings when they sin they don’t remember all the sins to ask forgiveness for. If Allah subhana wa ta'ala wills He will punish them or maghfira – Allah subhana wa ta'ala will conceal it and cover it for them. You will not be punished for the sins so you will be protected and the sins will not harm you. If a believer has khashiya on the Day of Judgment Allah subhana wa ta'ala will screen them. He will confess to all the sins and he will feel that he will go to hell. But Allah will say ‘I covered your sins in your life so I will cover them now.’ Narrated Safwan bin Muhriz Almazini: While I was walking with Ibn 'Umar holding his hand, a man came in front of us and asked, "What have you heard from Allah's Apostle about AnNajwa?" Ibn 'Umar said, "I heard Allah's Apostle saying, 'Allah will bring a believer near Him and shelter him with His Screen and ask him: Did you commit such-and-such sins? He will say: Yes, my Lord. Allah will keep on asking him till he will confess all his sins and will think that he is ruined. Allah will say: 'I did screen your sins in the world and I forgive them for you today', and then he will be given the book of his good deeds. Regarding infidels and hypocrites (their evil acts will be exposed publicly) and the witnesses will say: These are the people who lied against their Lord. Behold! The Curse of Allah is upon the wrongdoers." (11.18) (Book #43, Hadith #621)
In life do not expose your sins. It is better to just ask Allah subhana wa ta'ala for forgiveness. When you are openly talking about your sins it is as if you are not magnifying Allah subhana wa ta'ala, you are openly disobeying Allah subhana wa ta'ala. This is Al Mulk – you are full of sins but the one having the Mulk can cover your sins because of the worship of the heart – khashiya. Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam said ‘Allah said every son of Adam is a sinner and the best of sinners are those who repent. We are made of sand and dust so we are weak. We need to make tawbah continuously hoping Allah subhana wa ta'ala will grant us the forgiveness. People will enter Hellfire because of their sins. In life we have forgiveness and repentance to unload this burden. We need to do good deeds. Some amal, some actions, if you do them will expiate the sins without you having to say Astaghfirullah. Doing some deeds are astaghfirullah in itself like wudu & the five obligatory salat. In your salat before you say ‘Allah Akbar’ you are loaded with sin, as you go up and down the sins will fall like leaves from a tree. But still people will go to Hell. Al jamah al jamah, from Friday to Friday there is expiation of the sins. From Ramadhan to Ramadhan there is expiation of the sins. The intention is remembering the reward for the expiation of the minor sins. From Umrah to Umrah Allah subhana wa ta'ala will expiate the sins committed in between. From Hajj to Hajj you will be like a new born baby. So we have a daily, weekly, yearly etc cleansing.

Ayat 12 - 15
Another amal where you are not asking for forgiveness but somebody is asking forgiveness for you is when attending a study circle. When you learn for the Sake of Allah the angels will ask for forgiveness for you. Hadith: At the end of a long hadith Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam said that Allah declared ‘I bear witness to the angels that I will expiate all their sins’. Narrated Anas ibn Malik: The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: If anyone says in the morning: "O Allah! in the morning we call Thee, the bearers of Thy Throne, Thy angels, and all Thy creatures to witness that Thou art Allah than Whom there is no god, Thou being alone and without a partner, and that Muhammad is Thy servant and Thy Apostle," Allah will forgive him any sins that he commits that day; and if he repeats them in the evening. Allah will forgive him any sins he commits that night. (Book #41, Hadith #5060) This is how you can find Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s mercy, Allah subhana wa ta'ala does not want people to be punished or tortured, but human beings don’t seek these days and seasons of expiation of the sins. Hadith Qudsi: Allah, the Almighty, has said: O Son of Adam, so long as you call upon Me and ask of Me, I shall forgive you for what you have done, and I shall not mind. O Son of Adam, were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky and were you then to ask forgiveness of Me, I would forgive you. O Son of Adam, were you to come to Me with sins as great as the earth, and were you then to face Me ascribing no partners to Me, I would bring you forgiveness nearly as great as it. Allah subhana wa ta'ala will forgive you your sins as long as you did not associate anything with Him. Also when you have an infliction, someone hurts you, any discomfort in life, this is also an expiation of the sins but you need to be patient and to not always keep complaining.
wa-ajrun kabir – a great reward. Allah subhana wa ta'ala prepared Paradise for the believer.
67:13 And conceal your speech or publicize it; indeed, He is Knowing of that within the breasts. Surat al Mulk mentions the punishment from ayat 7 – 11. The people of Paradise are mentioned only in ayah 12. Before you sleep you need to purify yourself so you need a little fear. Sleeping is a minor death. If you feel you do not have time, remembering the punishment will make you reform yourself, help you to pardon people and ask for forgiveness. So whatever happened during the day you will be reminded. Hellfire is always mentioned before the dwellers of Paradise are mentioned as people will enter Hellfire before they enter Paradise. People will go to Hellfire because of what they have in their hearts, the actions of the heart. Ayah 13 is about Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s perfect knowledge. In our life we need to constantly consider purifying our heart. The focus is before beautifying you need to purify. You need to purify your heart of the sins first. Purification is very important, so for example remove the shirk and replace it with tawheed. Remove one sin and put in it’s place an ibadah. This is only in the heart. The ahsan amalu should be from the heart and not for praise or anything else.

Ayat 12 - 15
He is Knowing of that within the breasts.
The heart is very important. If your heart is reformed then you will be reformed on the outside. The hypocrites are only good on the outside to show off to people but Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows what is in your heart.
Sudur – the chest, the breast where the heart is. Your intentions & the secrets attached to your heart are known to Allah subhana wa ta'ala. You can deceive people but you cannot deceive Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows what is in your heart from your good intentions and from your bad intentions. For your good intentions you will get hasanat, Allah subhana wa ta'ala will reward you straight away. If you have bad intentions you will not get the sin but you need to purify yourself from the sin as you will end up committing this sin and it will be written against you. You need to be truthful in your intention and know that Allah subhana wa ta'ala is watching your heart. If you insist and love the sin then you will do it and it will be written against you. If you just think of doing good, Allah subhana wa ta'ala will reward you. If you only have the intention to sin Allah subhana wa ta'ala is Forbearing, He will not give you the punishment unless you want to do it in your heart. If you are secretly or openly talking about your sins Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows what is in your heart. During the time of Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam the kufar were saying to each other if you want to say anything against Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam or Allah subhana wa ta'ala, talk secretly because Prophet Muhammad ṣallallāhu ‘alayhi wa sallam Ilah will know about it and respond. Everytime they spoke secretly Allah subhana wa ta'ala revealed an ayah including this ayah. Sometimes you say things you don’t mean and people will take this one word against you. But Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows what is in your heart so this is a comfort for you, you can relax when you have a relation with La illaaha illa Allah (None has the right to be worshipped except Allah)because Allah subhana wa ta'ala is the only One you really need to worry about. This ayah by itself will give you ‘ahsanu amala’ and make you turn to Al Mulk, Al Malik the One having the great Kingdom. You can see Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s Dominion, Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s Kingdom, Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s Kingship. Your test is do your best and watch your heart, whether you are talking about it or not. The khashiya is not to fear people, but the Quraysh feared people. The Decree is what makes the person do good or to be misguided – the heart. When you advise someone Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows the motive of your advice, are you advising someone to make yourself better, or to put her down or you have some desire. Nasiyah cannot be for desire. Allah subhana wa ta'ala deals with your heart. The struggle of the heart is more difficult than the struggle of the limbs. Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows what is in your heart.
67:14 Does He who created not know, while He is the Subtle, the Acquainted? The one Who creates, Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows the best. This ayah is in the form of a question but you do not have to answer it. The one Who creates, Who initiates knows every detail. Human beings are created of flesh and bones but we also have emotions, feelings and intentions. Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows more about you than you know about yourself. People think they know everything even though it is not even a little of Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s knowledge.

Surat al Mulk – The Dominion
Ayat 12 - 15
Why did Allah subhana wa ta'ala create us? Everyone will answer this question differently, but still Allah subhana wa ta'ala is asking the human being. When Allah subhana wa ta'ala tells you what you yourself are supposed to do this is because the one Who created you knows the best. All human beings have the same imperfections. Your faults are in the Qur’an. Human beings will not know their own faults or their own faults will not come to their mind. The one Who created you knows better. Allah Al Qayyum, took charge of all our affairs. Allah subhana wa ta'ala is showing you yourself, showing you the way of guidance because ‘I do not know what I need, I do not know what will reform me or what mistakes I need to reform’. You don’t even know your own sins until Allah subhana wa ta'ala shows you. When Allah subhana wa ta'ala commands you, the obligations, no one can object to them because the one Who creates knows the best for you. Why is something haram, because Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows the best. Anything in life, if it is obligatory it is good for you. •
while He is the Subtle, the Acquainted
In this Ayah are two of the Names of Allah subhana wa ta'ala.
Al Latif – the gentle, Who knows the minor detail. Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows the finest detail which is good for you, Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows the finest intention you have in your heart from His gentleness. The one Who knows the finest of matters. Another meaning of Al Latif is Allah subhana wa ta'ala is Gentle, gentle in His nurturing, not hasty, gentle in His provision, gentle in His guidance. In Surat Yusuf is the name Al Latif Chapter (12) sūrat yūsuf (Joseph) 12:100 And he raised his parents upon the throne, and they bowed to him in prostration. And he said, "O my father, this is the explanation of my vision of before. My Lord has made it reality. And He was certainly good to me when He took me out of prison and brought you [here] from bedouin life after Satan had induced [estrangement] between me and my brothers. Indeed, my Lord is Subtle in what He wills. Indeed, it is He who is the Knowing, the Wise. Surat Yusuf is about trials in life and how at the end of the story Allah subhana wa ta'ala honoured Prophet Yusuf alaihi as-salaam, elevated him. Allah subhana wa ta'ala nurtured him gently and at the end of the story Yusuf alaihi as-salaam said ‘Allah subhana wa ta'ala nurtured me’. Yusuf alaihi as-salaam did not blame Allah subhana wa ta'ala, for putting him through the trials, he was never accusing, he mentioned the best thing for his situation, ‘Allah subhana wa ta'ala is so kind to me, Allah subhana wa ta'ala is so gentle with me and I needed to go through the trials, and Allah subhana wa ta'ala took me out of prison’.
Al Khabir – the Acquainted. AL Khabir has a similar meaning to Al Latif, Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows everything before it happens. Human beings have khabir, they have a speciality or a particular knowledge. From their many experiences they know the consequence.

Ayat 12 - 15
67:15 It is He who made the earth tame for you - so walk among its slopes and eat of His provision - and to Him is the resurrection. Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows the finest matter and knows about His creation. After His gentleness, gentleness in bringing all the good you can see the second meaning of the name Al Latif in ayah 15. nd
The 2 meaning is about the gentleness of deriving and bringing to His creation the provision. This is Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s kindness. Look at Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s gentleness and kindness to you. Allah made for you the Earth.
ja’ala – made. Because Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows what is good for the creation. You will dwell on the Earth for a short time. Allah subhana wa ta'ala knows what you will need and so Allah subhana wa ta'ala made the Earth.
Lakum – serving you. Allah subhana wa ta'ala subjected the Earth to you. The Earth serves you but some people are serving the Earth, making the earth or parts of the Earth gods, the stones, the mountains etc. However the Earth was created to serve you like a servant.
dhalula – humiliated, subservient. Allah subhana wa ta'ala subjected the Earth to you for you to break, plant, build or walk, etc. everything you can find on the Earth. Allah subhana wa ta'ala bought you into this life so out of His gentleness He made the Earth gentle for you, easy for you to dwell there. But you need to do two things; •
- so walk among its slopes and eat of His provision
Take the means even though the Earth is subjected to you.
fa-I’shu – so walk. Shamsi - You need to walk in it’s path means you need to take the means, you need to work for your provision. You need to work to build your house. You need to strive for your life, the Earth will not just give to you. You can go anywhere on the Earth, any place for trade, your provision, your treatment or your enjoyment. Your striving to take the means is tawwakul, Allah subhana wa ta'ala made it easy for you and you know this ease is from Allah subhana wa ta'ala. Allah subhana wa ta'ala made the means. Maryam was 9 months pregnant and she was under the date palm. No one is strong enough to shake the trunk to get the dates but Allah subhana wa ta'ala said you shake the tree, just take the means and Allah subhana wa ta'ala will give to you and provide for you. You need to strive for it.
7
Surat al Mulk – The Dominion
Ayat 12 - 15
Chapter (19) sūrat maryam (Mary) 19:25 And shake toward you the trunk of the palm tree; it will drop upon you ripe, fresh dates. With Prophet Musa alaihi as-salaam is was the same. Allah subhana wa ta'ala was able to spread the sea but Musa alaihi as-salaam needed to strike the sea, to take the means and then Allah subhana wa ta'ala will bring to you. Chapter (26) sūrat l-shuʿarā (The Poets) 26:63 Then We inspired to Moses, "Strike with your staff the sea," and it parted, and each portion was like a great towering mountain. After striving Allah subhana wa ta'ala will give you the provision. With Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s provision, don’t say it is your rizq, this is Allah subhana wa ta'ala’s rizq so you will be attached to Allah subhana wa ta'ala. •
- and to Him is the resurrection.
Don’t forget the akhirah.
Wa aliyin nashr – to Him is the return. You need to strive for the dunya so don’t put pressure on the provision of the dunya but remember the return to Him on the Day of Judgement when Allah subhana wa ta'ala will account you for what you did in your life. My dunya is a path going to the akhirah. Don’t indulge in the dunya forgetting the final destination, the hereafter. We ask Allah subhana wa ta’ala for His forgiveness and His Mercy. Anything that is good from these notes is from Allah subhana wa ta’ala. Any mistakes & misrepresentations are my own. I ask Allah subhana wa ta’ala for His forgiveness and to put forgiveness in the hearts of those who read them. JazakAllah Khairan.
