Electronic Logging Device (ELD) Installation What are the ELD devices available from Rand McNally? ELD 50 and DC 200. What is the difference between ELD 50 and DC 200 devices? DC 200 is internet enabled via a cellular connection and the cellular data service is bundled with the subscription price. DC 200 connects to the app over the Bluetooth® technology and the app communicates with the backend DriverConnect web service either using the smart phone or tablet’s cellular data service or by connecting back to DC 200 using WiFi technology. The connection mechanism is seamless to the driver when a DC200 is used. ELD 50 device does not have a cellular modem and it requires a smart phone or tablet with cellular connection to connect to the backend DriverConnect web service. I bought ELD in retail store. How do I activate it? Download the Rand McNally DriverConnect app on to your smart phone or tablet. Connect the ELD to your vehicle’s diagnostic port. Pair your device to Rand McNally DriverConnect app via Bluetooth®. The device will show a solid green. At this time the Rand McNally DriverConnect app will register the device’s serial number to the Rand McNally DriverConnect web service. How do I connect the ELD to Vehicle? Locate the round JBUS connector. Typically it is located under the dashboard. Insert the ELD50 and twist the ring to secure tight. Please also refer to https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PxwMUil-24. If you have a DC200, connect a cable to the round JBUS connector and connect the other end to the DC200. How do I upgrade the software on the ELD device? When your device is paired via Bluetooth® with the Rand McNally DriverConnect app, the app will automatically download new software to the ELD, if a new software version is available. Is there a way to factory reset the device by a user? No, users can only power off and power on the device. The device is provisioned by the Rand McNally DriverConnect app. Can ELD be used in my car? ELD Indicators What do the colored lights in ELD refer to? When the ELD is plugged into the JBUS port you will see a sequence of flashing lights. The ELD will first flash white to indicate that it is powered.

When the ELD senses vehicle data on the JBus the first flashing light changes from red to green. When the ELD successfully gets the GPS satellite connection the second flashing light in that sequence changes from red to green. When the ELD successfully connects to the Rand McNally DriverConnect app via Bluetooth the ELD will show solid green light.

What does a fading blue light indicate? The ELD has different light sequences when software is being updated or when it is in a sleeping mode. When the vehicle is ignition is off for an hour, ELD will transition to sleeping mode and it slowly fades a blue light. Why does my ELD chirp sometimes? When the Rand McNally DriverConnect app is connected via the Bluetooth® to ELD a chirp will be heard. Also when the app is disconnected from the app a chirp will be heard. What lights are shown during a firmware upgrade? When the device software is being updated it will flash alternating green and blue. During this time the ELD MUST not be powered off.

Getting started with the Rand McNally DriverConnect app Where should I download the app from? Please download Rand McNally DriverConnect app from the Google Play Store. If you are using a Rand McNally TND tablet you can download the app from Rand McNally Marketplace. What is the name of the app? The name of the app is DriverConnect. Search Google Play Store for “Rand McNally DriverConnect”. On what OS does the app run? The app runs only on Android OS. What is Google Play Store and how do I access it? Google Play Store is Google’s Android app store. You can access Google Play Store from Android™ mobile device using the Play Store app. What name should I search for in the Google Play store? Rand McNally DriverConnect. How does the Rand McNally DriverConnect app communicate with the ELD device? The app and the ELD communicate using Bluetooth® technology. Can the Rand McNally DriverConnect app communicate to the ELD device when there is no internet connection? Yes, the app can communicate with ELD using Bluetooth® after first time sign in. For the first time sign in the app needs internet connection. Thereafter you can sign in without internet connection and connect to the ELD. Will my smart-phone’s or Android tablet’s cellular data bandwidth be used by app to communicate with Rand McNally DriverConnect web service?

When using ELD 50 device the smart-phone’s or Android tablet’s cellular data bandwidth will be used. When using DC 200 smart-phone or Android tablet’s cellular service is not needed, as it is built into the DC200.

Getting started with the Rand McNally DriverConnect portal What is the URL for Rand McNally DriverConnect portal? The url of the Rand McNally DriverConnect portal is https://driverconnect.randmcnally.com What does the portal access provide? The portal provides access to driving history, DVIR history, devices registered with your company, ability to add new drivers to your company, a snapshot of HOS metrics and other FMCSA compliance metrics. How do I sign into the portal? Visit https://driverconnect.randmcnally.com. In the sign in page use the email address and the password that you registered with Rand McNally DriverConnect service to sign in. How do I register to Rand McNally DriverConnect service? Download the app and in the landing screen tap on “New Account” button. This will display an Account registration screen. After inputting the required information, tap the Submit button. You will receive a welcome email in the email account used during registration. This email will contain both a company ID assigned by the Rand McNally DriverConnect web service and the driver ID that you entered during registration. Also the email will contain a link to verify your email address. By confirming your email address you will get access to Rand McNally DriverConnect portal. Using the company ID and driver ID you can log in to Rand McNally DriverConnect app.

Registration with Rand McNally DriverConnect What benefits do I get if I use ELD and the Rand McNally DriverConnect service? With an ELD you will be in HOS compliance. You can manage your HOS logs electronically, file DVIR reports electronically and transmit HOS logs during a road side inspection. You can also access driving history and vehicle inspection reports using the Rand McNally DriverConnect portal. What is the registration process for the Rand McNally DriverConnect app? Once the app has been installed, tap the icon to open. The app will be launched with the initial screen to create a “New Account” or to “Log In” for already registered users. Tap on the “New Account” button. A registration screen will be displayed. Type in the required fields and submit. After submission please check for emails from randmcnally.com. The welcome email will contain a company ID (system generated) and driver id you entered in the registration page. The second email will be a verification email. Why should I verify the email? We highly encourage you to verify your email ID to use all the features of DriverConnect. When you verify your email ID by clicking on “Verify email address” button in the Rand McNally DriverConnect welcome email you will be registered with Rand McNally DriverConnect system and you can receive communication emails such as reset password and billing related emails at this email id. How long is the initial trial period? Users who purchased ELD, downloaded the Rand McNally DriverConnect mobile app, registered with Rand McNally DriverConnect web service and verified their email address may be eligible for free access to Rand McNally DriverConnect service for up to 30 days. Eligible customers will be offered a trial period of 30 days once per company.

What happens to the data after the initial trial period? The data will be available to the user upon paying a monthly service fee. Subscriptions start at $14.99 per month. If the subscription is not paid Rand McNally may delete the data after a period of time. Will I lose HOS driving data if ELD is not connected to the app? No, the ELD generally can store up to 2 days worth of HOS driving data in its internal storage. When the device connects to the app the stored data will be transferred to the app. Is my HOS data and gauges data stored in the app or in the cloud (backend data store)? The HOS data is periodically transferred from the app to the cloud and stored in the Rand McNally DriverConnect platform. The gauges data are for display only. Is credit card required to subscribe to compliance plan even for the trial period? No. Is every ELD activated in a company must be subscribed to a subscription plan? Yes. How can I buy a subscription for a company? When a user adds a device to a company the device is assigned a new subscription. To facilitate subscription, the first ELD device can be added to a company by an owner-operator by pairing the app with the ELD. The user will be prompted to login to DriverConnect portal. When owner-operator logs in to DriverConnect portal he or she can subscribe to a plan. All devices added to the company will be subscribed to this plan. How can I buy additional subscriptions for a company? Only owner-operators can subscribe a device in a company to DriverConnect service. The first ELD device must be subscribed by downloading the app and by pairing the app with ELD device. Additional devices can be subscribed using the DriverConnect portal (driverconnect.randmcnally.com) only. The user will be requested to confirm the additional subscription charge before the device is added to the company. Can different devices in the company be subscribed to different plan? No. All devices in the company are subscribed to the same plan. What features are supported in different subscription plans?

Hours of Service What rule sets are supported by DriverConnect? Federal US-8/70 & Federal US-7/60 with exemptions, California 8/80 with exemptions, TX, FL, OR, AL, WA, WI, IL, NY with exemptions, Canada cycle 1. How can I change a rule set? Tap on ON DUTY status at the bottom of the dashboard screen. The change status screen will allow the driver to choose the rule set. Is Tractor number input mandatory while changing to ON DUTY status? Yes, the tractor number field must not be empty. The trailer number, BOL and DVIRs are not mandatory at this time while changing the duty status. How can I choose an exemption to a rule set? First choose a rule set (see above). When you choose a rule set you will see an option to choose an exemption. Tap on choose exemption. Then available exemptions for that rule set are displayed. Now choose the desired exemption. The selected rule set and the exemption will be displayed at the bottom of the dashboard. How can I edit a duty status? Choose logbook from the main menu dropdown (top left corner). By tapping on a day the day detail screen is displayed. In day detail screen tap on any of duty statuses listed to edit the duty status. What is pre-trip and post-trip DVIR? Regulation requires a driver perform DVIR both the beginning of the day (pre-trip) and at the end of the day (posttrip).

Messaging What types of messaging are supported? One-to-one, Group and Forms based messaging are supported. Can I message to anyone? No. Messaging is supported only to the contacts in your contact list. How do I add a contact to a list? The contact is created when a driver is added to a fleet by a fleet manager. Can I send a message if I am not connected to internet? No. Can I send a message if the recipient is not online? Yes. How do I know a message was sent? A delivered time stamp is displayed below the message in the chat screen. Can I send multimedia messages? No. Only text messages are supported at this time.

Can I send messages from the portal? Yes. Similar features are supported both on the app and portal.

Forms How do I create a Form? The app is integrated with a set of Forms. Only those Forms can be used for communication. What is Forms-based messaging? Forms are structured form of communication between a driver and a fleet manager. Where I can find Forms sent to me? The Forms are in-lined in chat session of the contact who sent that Form. How can I send a Form from the app? Tap on the ‘Attach’ icon adjacent to the text input box and choose a form to send. How can I send a Form from the portal? Yes, forms can be sent from the portal by a fleet manager to a driver.

Workflow What is a workflow? Workflow is a container of list of tasks that are assigned by a fleet manager to a driver. Each task in that list is a Form that the driver has to complete before moving on to next task. Can a driver skip a task? No. A fleet manager can cancel a task in a workflow. When a task is cancelled the corresponding Form is disabled in the workflow. Please note an already started task cannot be cancelled. How to create a workflow? Workflow can be created only on the portal by a fleet manager or owner operator. In the portal Workflow option is available in the Management tab. Once in the Workflow screen Workflows can be created. How to send a workflow to a driver? In the portal from the Messaging window click on the Workflow tab. In the Workflow tab click on the New Workflow button at the bottom. Enter the contact name and choose the workflow name created using portal workflow web page. Update the Forms in the Workflow as needed and click on “Send Workflow” button at the bottom. How does a driver view his workflow? The driver by tapping the Messaging option from Navigation bar can enter the messaging screen. In the Messaging screen by tapping on the Workflow tab a driver can view his Workflow. How does a driver start on his workflow? At the beginning of his trip the driver should accept his Workflow after reviewing it. When the driver is at his terminal and start his on duty status should start his workflow. His first task will become active. As the driver goes through his day he should complete his Forms and send them.

How can a driver move to next task in the workflow? Once the driver sends all the Forms in a task in a workflow that task will be marked complete and will be flagged Green. Then the driver will be able to move to the next task in the workflow. How is a workflow completed? At the end of the trip when all the tasks in the Workflow is completed the driver can click on “Finish Workflow” button to complete his workflow. Can a driver see more than one workflow? On the app the driver can see only one workflow at a time. Can a fleet manager see more than one workflow? Yes, a fleet manager can see more than one workflow at a time on the portal.

Troubleshooting What number should I call for the support of ELD 50 and DC 200? You can call 1-877-446-4863 for Rand McNally support. You can send an email to [email protected]. You can visit www.randmcnally.com/eld-50-support My device and my app do not pair using Bluetooth®. How do I fix this? Please power off and power on the ELD device and the smart phone or Android tablet. If you’re still unable to pair, uninstall the Rand McNally DriverConnect app from the application manager (available by tapping settings icon) and reinstall. Can a device be used by two companies? No, a device is registered to one company. To assign the device to a different company you must call Rand McNally customer support. Can a device be used by two drivers in the same company? A device is registered to one company. More than one driver belonging to the same company can use the device. To register a different driver within the same company you must call the fleet administrator or owner-operator of that company. How can I input the Vehicle Identification Number (VIN)? The Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is transmitted by the Electronic Logging Device (ELD) to DriverConnect app when it is available in the JBUS data. The user cannot enter this data. How can I input the DOT number? When registering your company DOT number is required. An alpha numbering string is accepted as valid input. Why I am not able to register my second device using the app? The first device is registered to you company when the app is connected to the device. The first ELD device will receive a 30-day complimentary trial subscription. The second device must be added to the company from the DriverConnect portal because a subscription must be purchased before adding the device.

DriverConnect Maintenance How does the system maintenance affect DriverConnect service to drivers? DriverConnect portal system may not be available for maintenance activities between 11:00pm and 5:00am CST on Thursdays. Portal maintenance will not impact the engine data collection and HOS calculations in the vehicle. Contact Rand McNally for support (1-877-446-4863), if needed.
